Portland or Chelsea and Westminster?

Hello all,

I am 18 weeks pregnant, and by the sound of things a little bit late to book all the 'good consultants' in private care as they all get booked up quickly. I will get onto it on Monday, but wanted to ask if anyone had any opinions on Portland vs. Chelsea and Westminster private wing? There is a chance I will have to have a C section due to a fibroid blocking a way out, but we won't know that until later in the pregnancy.

Also - does anyone have consultants to recommend in either? I know Mark Johnson is really good, but he will be all booked up by now. Has anyone come across Catherine Roberts at the Portland?

Thanks a lot! I am getting a bit nervous that I left it all late, but it was a bit of a surprise...

Hi, I considered both Portland and C&W and decided to go for C&W. Many consultants deliver at Portland. At Portland, try Peter O'Brien, Maggie Blott, Jeffrey Braithwait, Guy Thorpe Beeston, Eric Jauniaux or Demetrios Economides. I heard mixed reviews from friends who were CR's gyn patients and I passed on her... Christian Barnick who shares an office with her is very popular, but is not for everyone. At C&W, try Zoe Penn, Gubby Ayida, Keith Duncan, Nick Wales. If you need a c-section, Guy Thorpe Beeston. Ultimately, a consultant choice depends on one's personality and background... Pls feel free to PM me.

Thanks lilly, that's very helpful. I may PM you when I am a bit fresher! Also will try dialing all these people to see if they have availability.

I had all my babies delivered by Paul Armstrong at the Portland. He's very calm and unflappable which I liked, and did a really neat job with my c section scars - he kind of pulled the two together so I've only got one scar and no major overhang!

Hello - thanks both. I rung up today, and the second consultant I rung was available - Keith Duncan. So I feel lucky, given I left it late. I searched him here, and he seems to have good reviews. Now I have to deal with all the costs!

He is very good, very detailed. Good luck!

After a completely unsatisfactory first appointment with the GP (seriously - she's a referral service rather than a Dr) I met Christian Barnick today. He's excellent. Loved his no bullshit, completely real, upfront and honest but still friendly and warm approach. If you're looking for a girls group love-in, he's not your guy. If you're interested in being looked after by a doctor who is completely on point, and inspires confidence and empowerment through knowledge, book him!
