that's it really. i'm still not sure about the whole thing - apparently there is some concern the baby might be a bit small but I'm really scared about this whole induction thing.
Please reassure me as I'm not sure I can back out now as it's all booked in now!

I'm full term but only just 40 weeks - I need some good induction stories because all i've heard are bad ones

Thanks in advance

I was induced with the pessary at 10pm was due another at 6am and my waters broke at 8am but a few hours after the 1st pessary my contractions started, then my waters broke themselves and my baby girl was born at 6.42am!

Good luck for tomorrow!

I was so nervous about it but all went well in the end and it was a very positive experience overall. I had the pessary at 11:30am, was in labour by about 2pm, established labour by 7pm, fully dilated by 10pm and had DS (by ventouse) at 1am. So pretty quick really. I was a bit disappointed to miss out on the whole exciting dash to the hospital thing, but actually it was nice - all very calm, just mooching around the hospital waiting for things to happen rather than having to sit contracting in a taxi.

Only thing I would say is that inductions can be more intense than normal births, so give some thought to pain relief. By the time I got round to asking for it, it was too late!

Good luck - hope all goes well for you.

I was induced at 42 weeks. Remember it is your decision to be induced - I refused till there was a medical reason to induce, and MW were fine with my decision and very supportive. If you are happy to go ahead with the induction, my advice is have a good meal before you go in - you'll need the energy! Also, don't let them send your birth partner home. At my hospital standard practice is to induce overnight, so i was given pessary at 10pm, and DH sent home. My contractions started a couple of hours later, and it was pretty scary on my own - have never been so relieved to see anyone when DH got back!

I had the drip, and they put an epidural in first - you may want to prepare yourself for this method of pain relief.

good luck!

I had one at 37 weeks and one at 36 weeks- both due to concerns over lack of growth. We were absolutely fine and induction wasn't that bad for me. Good luck for tomorrow!

buttonmoon78 · 06/04/2011 20:58

I was induced at 38 weeks for medical reasons but with me, not baby. Waters broken about 9am, drip set up about noon, proper contractions about 2pm (they were kind to me and turned it up gradually), ds born 11.35pm. He was back to back but whether this had anything to do with the induction is anyone's guess!

Did it all with G&A, tore but no intervention. I guess that's a success story if that's what you're after.

You'll be fine. I promise. Whatever happens and however it comes out, you'll have a baby very soon. Good luck Smile

I was induced for my first two and I would say the labours were actually less painful than my third 'natural' labour. Best of luck!

Thanks so much for these stories guys - happy to report all went well.
My experience was gel at 9am, waters broken at 3 then epidural straight after which kicked in at about 4 then VERY fast delivery at 5.30 so that my Dr missed it - the midwife sounded an emergency button and some Dr i'd never seen before delivered the head and my Dr made it in for the body.
Pushing phase (2nd child though) required 5 pushes (unbelievable) and would've been the easiest experience ever except for the fact he came out with his hand up at his face so i had quite bad tear (2nd degree) but nothing to do with the induction.
I was so lucky - i took the advice i'd had from everyone re inductions and got the epidural early in the process (straight after waters broken) and thank god i did as contractions were (obviously) seriously intense.

So really really happy overall I was obviously one of the lucky ones too. I guess you just never hear the good stories.

Good luck dappleton! I hope i've posted this in time for you to read and hope it reassures you a bit - I was terrified right up until it started then I was just resigned to whatever would be would be.
