Long latent labour - anyone going through this or experienced it?

I'm 38 +5 with my 2nd and am having a very different experience from my first who arrived at 36 wks with no signs he was on his way! This time I think I could be having a long latent labour but not sure as didn't get this far along last time. I had what I'm assuming was a show on Monday followed by stomach and back ache a few times lasting about 30 mins each time, yesterday I had some real sharp shooting pains, one made me jump off my fit ball it was so intense! And then last night had stomach ache and back ache throughout most of the night, no contractions though.... This morning everything has settled again.... Has anyone else experienced this?

I experienced a long latent phase of labour. My contractions started in the early hours of the Thursday and DD was born on the following Tuesday. I didn't feel like I went in to labour "properly" (i.e. had to give it my full attention) until the Saturday morning.

I would suggest you rest, rest, rest now and save your energy for later. I made the mistake of not sleeping much in the early stages, timing contractions way too early and then just being exhausted by the time I was in established labour.

Do you know what position your baby is in? My dd was back to back which I think was the cause of my slow labour. If I had the same again I would use OFP to encourage her to turn with my early contractions (obviously this may not be any help to you at all!).

Good luck!

hi, i had a long latent labour with fairly regular contractions from the sun afternoon and ds born the wed night. As was my first i wasn't sure what to expect and establised labour prob only began on early wed morning.

Tbh mine wasn't much like how yours sounds, just contractions, but they are all different!

Although all aspects of my labour were pretty long winded it all went really smoothly...ds is just very laid back!

Would second dirge's advice though would add to intersperse the rest with some walks...esp if you want to move things along a bit...to help jiggle baby into position (technical term - disclaimer- i'm not a doctor Grin )

Good luck!
