Kangaroo care is a really good way to bond with your prem baby and it's not only the mother who can do it.
I don't know how much you know already
But it is based on skin to skin contact the baby is placed on your front (good idea to have button up top) the mothers boby temprature helps to maintain the babys but if the father is doing it then this doesn't happen. Thats what I was told with ds1.
A really good experience for mother and child.

Hi Clarkie2006
Hope I dont get my hands slapped for this but looked in rules and nothing so here goes.
The Cozy Cocoon would be ideal for a premmie baby as it is based on the old fashioned swaddling principle whereas instead of swaddling and the baby can wriggle free and have the moro reflex (jerks themseles awake) the Cozy Cocoon encapsulates them in a cocoon.
It has been scientifically proven that swaddling aids sleep and it is 100% safe
visit the website www.cosyplanet and see the testimonials etc and if your interested please email me [email protected]
thanks

kangaroo care and swaddling are opposites though
and IIRC that is advertising isn't it?

My DD Was born at 29 weeks & we did alot of kangeroo care. Like heavenis said both the mum and dad can do it but best wear a button up top.

I remember the first time we did this my DD was the day after she was born. She was covered in wires and was so small (2lb 10) and started crying when she was lifted out of the incubator. She soon snuggled down between my boobs and loved it and calmed down - she cryed when she was taken away though(I think I did too!). For me it was the best feeling in the world!

I'm currently pregnant again and this baby will probably turn up early as well (am 29 weeks and have history of early delivery) so we will doing alot of this again as well. I found it really helped.

Thank you to all who replied, i am interested in K.care as both my daughters were born prem and ventilated etc.k.care was not offered and i knew nothing about it at the time, i feel i missed out on early bonding with my babies because i didnt get that close contact with them. I am now at college and doing a project on k.care.I would like to know if any of you who have experienced it would help me by completing a questionairre? Next year i hope to study midwifery so any input would be appriciated.Ihope you all get back to me!
