Oval Dilation During Labour???

Hi everyone, just wanting to find out really if anyone else had this during their labour, have tried to do research about it but cant find anything!

with my first, my contractions started on a wednesday morning, I was admitted into my local birthing centre later that evening when I was 4cm dilated.. didn't progress much overnight and had my waters broken in the early morning..( WAS NOT HAPPY WITH THE LEVEL OF CARE AND LACK OF INTEREST FROM THE MIDWIFE I HAD OVERNIGHT) was checked again by my usual midwife and was told I was still 4cm dilated so was transferred to a hospital birthing unit,

had full blown contractions throughout the whole time and could feel babys head pushing down

had epidural.. could still feel everything and was finally checked for the first time since arrival, to see how I was progressing, as babys heart rate was slowing (NOTICED BY MY PARTNER WHO GOT THE MIDWIVES ATTENTION THANKFULLY) and was told I'd dilated 4cm and 7cm (checked by 3 different people plus a consultant to confirm) so was rushed in for an emergency c-section on the friday afternoon...

I'm 28 weeks pregnant now and really hoping that my consultant agrees to another c-section when I see him after my 32 week scan (anterior low lying placenta check up) as I don't think I can go through all that again... and have never been told why I dilated the way I did. My midwife I feel is useless as I always have to tell her about it in all my appointments with her ( including that I have low lying anterior placenta and want a c-section again) and she thinks the consultant will advise v-bac!!!! I feel like she doesn't take me seriously or just doesn't understand the complications I had.

soo worried right now and could use a little help and advise from other mothers who have been in a position like mine

thanks Dee

I had this - it was due to scar tissue on my cervix following a rescue cerclage during that pregnancy which had since been removed. I never got beyond 6x4cm, and I'd been walking around at at least 4-5cm for 10 days before then but nobody knows if it was oval then.

They said I would be unable to progress (had been on the syntocin for 12 hours at the max allowable and no change and the contractions were easily bearable, in fact I slept through some of them) and I had an EMCS.

I have no idea if breaking up the scar tissue would have been a valid way forward and it's a moot point now, but I wish I'd known more about it at the time.

Have you ever had any surgeries (e.g. biopsies etc) on your cervix or anything that might cause scar tissue there?

Hiya,

I haven't had any surgeries or anything before my c-section with my first. was never explained to me what the reason for it happening might be, think there was too much of a rush at the time but heard nothing about it after

Hi

Not been in your situation but can understand whay you are so worried. what you discribe sounds awful, and quite scary. I think you really need to push for a c section, hopefully your consultant will agree with you,. I would also look at asking to change my midwife if you have to tell her the same things over and over again surely she should be writing something in your notes. I would also push her for reason this may have happened as I think it's important you know. good luck
