confused re birth advice

I am pg with ID twins and have been told to have a csection as it's much safer for the babies and often women deliver one naturally then have to have a cs for the second - I think having pain in one place is enough as dd's birth left me with 37 stitches and was painful for ages after.

I'm happy to go with the advice. However, I'm confused. When I look up ID twins there is loads of stuff advising vb - this completely contradicts my mw, consultant and GP (whose wife is a mw and he himself is qualified in this area as he loves babies - he infact did my stitches and managed to keep me out of surgery with dd). They have all told me that vb would put babies and me in danger so I really need to have a cs.

Are other regions trying to keep their cs rates down?

I think the advice I have heard in different friends cases caries at the same hospital trust so I think its really important that each individual is taken on its own merits as what to us untrained internet researchers seams like the same thing but in fact are different.

If you are happy that you have recieved go with the best advise and ask for a second opinion off someone with your notes if needed.

Sorry not sure if that helps or not but good luck and congratulations x

I think it often depends which parts of the babies are likely to come out first. If one or both babies are breech or if one is transverse they generally suggest a c-section. If both are head down they may agree a VB is OK. Also if the babies share a placenta, you might have the problem of the birth of the first baby having an impact on the placenta (pulling it off the womb wall? not sure of this) and therefore the 2nd baby being starved of oxygen. Because of this if you did go for VB they might make you give birth in or near the operating theatre just in case something happened.
Sorry I know that's not very positive.
What would you really like to do?
Does the stuff you've read advising VB give any reasons for this?

Princes - my consultant has reccomended c-section for the exact reasons that calm has suggested above. I'm going with the section because the idea of having a VB for the first and then an EMCS is not one I want to have to go with!

Mine are ID with the same placenta.

What region are you in out of interest?

I thought CS was standard advice for mono-amniotic twins??? I haven't had twins but a friend did so we heard qujite a bit about it.

Even if you go for VB with non-ID twins, afaik the advice is often to have an epidural so that if you need a CS to save the second twin, you're ready to go and won't need GA.

Decided to have cs as there is a risk to twin 2 with vb and the thought of being in pain through vb and cs is not a nice one - I'll keep stitches in one place!
