ok I might be being stupid....

I am 35 weeks pregnant with ID twins. Most of the way through I have been determined to go for a VB. However last scan showed twin 2 is breech.... so there can be significant complications as they share the same placenta. (although it is still possible, I just do not want the risk after doing much research..like speaking to the multiple birth foundation. }

I discussed this in depth with my DP and we have decided to go for a csec instead (its safer for the babies) ...
I am just wondering that although my notes say that I want to deliver them vaginally and now Ive changed my mind, can they say no to you????? sorry I am just worried about it......

Answers please..... Thanks . Smile

I would ring up your MW team, as being twins and 35 weeks already, you'd could very well go into labour soon.

If you just turned up, I imagine a lot of would come down what MWs you see when you get there and the situation on the ground as it were.

harrygracejessica · 26/03/2011 21:23

i thought it was safer to deliver ID twins by c-sec anyway and at about 36 weeks!! def ring them monday

I think as a higher risk pregnancy (multiple) they would blinking well fall over themselves to respect your wishes and wouldn't mind in the least that you now feel a CS would be the way forward, based on the latest clinical exam.

Good luck. How exciting...

You do need to contact them as you would be having an elcs, which means planning and booking a date, if you just roll in on a day you fancy and ask for a section they will be a touch surprised.

For general thread info (not to challenge op's decision, which is clearly her considered choice) I believe a lot of second twins are breech before birth, but turn after the first is born, when there is room; obviously there is a chance they won't though.

Have you delivered before, OP? Would make a difference to my feelings if it were me?

hippy3 · 27/03/2011 17:51

nope first babies. and honestly was going to go for a VB when I thought they were both head down, but it being breech and ID I phoned the multiple birth foundation at queens charlottes and they went thru all the risks with me which is why I changed my mind....

I will phone my MW tomorrow.... most of the registrars ive seen have said Csec anyway as its safer my consultant said I could go for a VB if I wanted......

I thought it would be down to patient choice..I can quote the risks and stats at them if I need to...and on their head be it if anything goes wrong...... in fairness most id twins are born thru c sec as they share the same placenta, although not all......

And I will discuss dates for elecs on weds unless I go in the next couple of days....

I do'nt have any direct experience of this, but I would assume that if you are (a) pregnant with twins and (b) one of them is breech that they most certainly will let you have a CS. I think it's a case of adjusting patient care as and when different issues arise, so I wouldn't think it would be a problem. Try speak to them asap about it.

stealthcat · 27/03/2011 18:01

I doubt that you will need to persuade them, just tell them that you have now decided that you would rather have a CS.

NonnoMum · 27/03/2011 20:30

If you have a CS instead of a VB, then please don't think of it as any less of a birth. Just think how wonderful you are to bring two babies into the world at once, and save all your energy and effort for raising those beautiful babies!

(and let us know how you get on...)

hippy3 · 28/03/2011 10:00

thanks for all your support around this...! just spoke to my MW and she has said that all I need to do is discuss it with my consultant on weds/ Registrar and the registrar who is on call if I go into labour before hand....

so fingers crossed they are in until weds....... will keep u posted. x
