Has anyone had a tummy bug etc prior to labour starting?

Am due today. Have been up most of the night throwing up with crampy pains at top of the bump and going to the loo a lot...phoned the delivery suite and they said it sounds like early labour but to contact the community midwife as they didn't want me to go in to the ward in case it was a bug

Midwife says it sounds like a tummy bug as pre labour sickness is when you just throw up a couple of times before labour and you feel fine afterwards. She also said you wouldn't get pains at the top of the bump but I've been googling and you can get pain at top of bump - its called fundal dominance

I'm not so sure about all this so thought I would check here and see what other's experience was

Any baby yet? Wink

Nothing Sad

Rang Dr as midwife was a bit useless quite frankly and Dr seems to think its a bug.... says you don't normally get D and V with pre labour its either one or the other...but again, I'm not sure

Bloody coincidence that its happened on my due date isn't it!

With DD I had explosions both ends and then had her an hour later in hospital, just managed to get my pants off had her standing up the midwife caught her. Blush

All the best! Grin

Well one things for sure, if it is labour it will keep coming back until a baby pops out. :)

Pancakeflipper · 25/03/2011 18:32

With my eldest I had a late afternoon of bowel emptying and retching in a delightful manner. 4 hrs later he was born. Hope all goes well.

I have had two babies so far and both have started with the trots. So for me it is a good indication it is happening, with my last one I ignored it as I was only 36 weeks, won't do that again, as I ended up arriving at hospital pushing.

Hi Puss, I'm due on Tuesday coming and I spent Saturday (just gone) throwing up, with diarrhoea and stomach cramps so bad I was crawling around on all fours. I honestly thought I was going in to labour - I was running a warm bath for 'pain relief' and telling my partner to go back to bed, as he'd need his rest for the 'long haul ahead'.

It was my partner who did the googling/NHS Direct-ing/midwife phoning etc and deduced that it WASN'T labour but either food poisoning or a tummy bug.

Part of the logic was that my stomach cramps were not becoming any more regular, and were followed by diarrhoea.

Of course, perhaps you ARE in labour but just letting you know that I wasn't!! Try your hardest to keep some fluids down and GOOD LUCK x x x

PussinJimmyChoos · 25/03/2011 20:06

Thanks for all the replies...cramps have eased quite a bit and I've managed to eat some plain boiled rice...guess it must have been a bug...

Bugger!

Good to get the bug out the way now though! Do you really want to be giving birth with a squirty bum? Wink

PussinJimmyChoos · 26/03/2011 17:43

WMMC - this is a v good point

Still no baby...I am resigned to another week of the school run and a sweep on Friday

All twinges and backaches that were once met with excitement and a ooh could this be it are now largely ignored ....I am blase about it now! Grin

whomovedmychocolate · 26/03/2011 18:30

Well the school run isn't so bad and you'll be wibbling on all fours in labour very soon, don't worry. :)

PussinJimmyChoos · 26/03/2011 18:35

I hate the school run this late in pg...too much faff to get out of pjs and haul arse to school gate

Mind you, I am sure it will be even harder with a newborn to get ready as well as myself Grin

Hows the new mog settling?

whomovedmychocolate · 26/03/2011 20:38

He's fab - noisy but fab!

Newborns can be carried around in PJs with inpunity!

lia66 · 26/03/2011 20:46

puss i feel for you. Hope you're feeling better.

For what it's worth and I'm sure wmmc will vouch for this, you don't need to get your newborn ready in the morning, just nappy change and make sure it's had some food to keep it going till you get back. Jammies are perfectly acceptable.

Keep us informed. :)

PussinJimmyChoos · 26/03/2011 20:54

very un mumsnet though...unless they are Boden??? Grin

Did you get a VBAC in the end?

Cattybalboa · 08/04/2011 20:35

Hello,

I had an experience a few weeks ago where I went into early labour at 38 weeks, I then started throwing up with every contraction and I got told to go into the hospital. Labour had started, and I was 1 cm dilated but I had a bad Kidney infection and that was what was causing the sickness. I was started on a drip ( because I had got so dehydrated with the sickness) and antibiotics and labour ground to a halt a few hours later- and hasn't started since and am now 39+1. Just something to be aware of x
