Hi there,

1st Baby is breech at the moment and not sure if I am going to opt for an ECV.

Any ladies experiences/stories of their elective c-sections for breech would be much appreciated??

Thanks!

Sorry this is second hand but my friend had an ELCS with a breech. One of her relatives who is an Obs/Gynae consultant warned against trying to turn the baby as it more often than not ends up not working whilst causing distress to mum and baby...and to just get on and have a CS.

Hi

Just to say that an ECV isn't necessarily that bad - I had one and it was OK, and I could have stopped it at any time if the discomfort was too much. Mine didn't work but I'm glad I tried - I know other people who it has worked for and my reasoning was that a bit of short-lived discomfort was preferable to the risks and pain associated with caesarean. They monitored the baby thoroughly before and after and used ultrasound whilst trying to turn it so they could see the baby. It felt like they were pressing on my tummy behind the baby, rather than on the baby directly, if that makes sense. Good luck with whatever you choose - lots of people have good experiences of caesarean but to be honest I'm still dreading mine next week.

I had an ECV with DD2 as she was footling breech but she didn't budge an inch. It does carry some risks but so does a CS so I felt it was worth a shot. I ended up having an ELCS and it was fine. Not the lovely home birth I had originally planned but it was very calm and civilised and I recovered well. Most importantly DD2 was born safely.

I hope your DC turns for you!

I had an ECV. Uncomfortable rather than painful. Worked perfectly. Had a vaginal delivery on dd's due date.

I had an EVC. It didn't work and was very uncomfortable but it was bearable. I haven't heard of many of them working tbh.

If you search my name, there are a fair few threads with my experience on there, many of them started by me.

I would type it out again but I have done it so many times, I am being lazy this time. Sorry. Smile

It was a good experience anyway and I am glad I had a CS as oppose to the bad birth I had with DS.

I couldn't have an ECV because there were other medical issues with the pregnancy. I had an elective c-section and I can honestly say that the recovery was so easy. I was off the painkillers within 24 hours and I ran out of the hospital. People had to keep reminding me that I had had a c-section and to slow down as I kept forgetting as I felt no soreness at all.

With my second pregnancy I had an emergency section and second time round it was more uncomfortable and recovery was not as swift as first time. However I still felt better post op than I had felt during the pregnancy.

I've just had an ELCS a week and a half ago with my 2nd DC. My DD was breech but I was having a section anyway due to a previous 3rd degree tear so I didn't have the option of ECV.

I found the actual section quite painful but the anaesthatist said I have an unusually low pressure pain threshold so most people wouldn't have been bothered by it. However, the recovery after the section was fine and hasn't been very painful at all.

I was up walking 8 hours after the section and found breastfeeding fine. I was home 48 hours after the section. I've found coping with the baby fine. The only thing I found difficult was getting out of my bed at home for the first couple of days.

As long as you take it easy you should be fine.

I was carrying a breech baby and i decided to have an elcs which was booked for when i was 39 weeks. i was against the ecv evc? as the thought of it made me feel sick. unfortunately i was struck by a very serious case of pre-eclampsia (hence, feeling and consequently being sick) so i ended having an amber emcs at 37+6 weeks. the cs was the best thing ever. As QTPie said, it was calm, and civilized and the staff were amazing. the recovery does take little longer and you cant drive for a while but i quite enjoyed that. after you have stood up once (brace yourself)you are fine, hair dry your scar after showering which helps to stop infection and lift nothing except your baby. I felt happier with a cut there than hearing the stories from women who had given birth vaginally. unfortunately it was the pre-eclampsia which did not sort itself until amonth after birth that ruined everything and nearly killed me!! all the best
