I would have been able to. I had a difficult forceps and 3rd degree tear with DS, had to make the choice with DD. I was adamant I wanted a natural birth again as I really didn't like the idea of a CS.

DD was breech however and wouldn't turn so the decision was made for me.

I loved my CS. Was sooooo much better than the 3rd degree tear. Recovery was better, I could sit down properly, the birth was lovely and relaxed and I wasn't shattered after a difficult birth, plus there wasn't the risk of doing more damage down below.

If I ever did have another baby, I will be having an ELCS again, and I really was gutted to have to have one at first.

What have they said about how you have healed after the first time? I know my hospital were happy for me to make the choice as I healed really well but there was a slight sense of urgency to go to the toilet that hasn't completely gone away. They also did tell me that if the same thing happened again then the damage would be worse but it was up to me if I wanted to take that risk. Basically, if I hadn't healed as well as I did, they would have recommended a CS.

i agree Crapbag same thing happend to me .had a really tough time lost my dignity after the tear.and then suffered for 4months post delivery. i dont even remember my babys face that well 'cause i was so fed up with myself. i do have urgency off and on even when i m left with 3weeks to go!
did u practise soem precautions or restriction to some sort of work after ELCS. have u had help.
i dont know im afraid of the after effects as well.as loosing my belly, getting back to shape. getting the area waxed and stuff etc etc u know what i mean.
i am going to see my obgyn cons soon lets see what end decision is made.i hope i stick by it. i feel more like a coward each passing day.

Personally, if you are still suffering from a sense of urgency, I would opt for the CS. Obviously it is up to you but after having both types of birth, the ELCS was so much better. I had a rotten time after DS and I don't remember that much apart from all the negative stuff, now I have had a much better birth, I am enjoying the baby stage a lot more this time around.

I don't really understand your questions.

Precautions or restrictions to what sort of work? and help in what way? DH had a month off work to help me which was brilliant. Belly went down a lot quicker this time. DD is only 5 weeks so I still have a bit to lose but nothing like last time where I still had to where my maternity trousers for quite a while after. Do you mean getting yourself waxed before a CS? I shaved myself the night before. Was a challenge! Wink

I have found the recovery from a CS far better than the recovery from the tear if thats what you mean by after effects. I was terrified of how I was going to cope after major surgery but it really wasn't anything like I thought it would be. As long as you are sensible, take painkillers regularly and don't overdo it, it is fine.

They may leave the decision up to you so you may want to be prepared for that.

Good luck and let me know how you get on. Smile

I had ventouse delivery with episiotomy and 3rd degree tear - recovery was long and painful (still had infection 13wks post partem!!).

If I were ever to have another DC (which I won't because I'm still too traumatised), I have also been told I could have an ELCS, and that is absolutely what I, personally, would do.

I am far more terrified of the associated risks of having another 3rd tear than I am about any CS risks. You couldn't get me to deliver naturally again for all the money in the world.

I didnt even know this was an option ?!

I had the same with my 1st & it was hell & the area is still tender after 5 years!
I actually had another child 17 months later which i gave birth to naturally & didnt have any problems other than a small tear, however i dont believe i healed properly.
I am now pregnant with my 3rd & am terrified of birth again and my bits feel v sensitive already & i am struggling to go to the loo (i dont really know why)
and i just feel i am going to cause myself damage if i go through a natural birth again.....

who do you talk to about this as i just thought you dont get a choice, its up to the professionals ...?

Suzy ask your MW to refer you to a consultant. I am very surprised that they didn't do that with your last pregnancy.

If the consultant isn't any good then ask for a second opinion.

I haven't heard of anyone not having the choice or birth or at least seeing a consultant after a bad tear.
