Come tell me how silly I am, this is my 3rd pg I thought I had got through unscaved I had no stitches but when pg on DC2 I had awful problems with my pelvic floor being agony all the time, burning and a ache like a pulled muscle and unable to urinate properly, later found out it was because I damaged the muscles on DC1 birth as he was pushed out in op position with his hand up by his face.

Well I started physiotherapy and then accidently fell pg. Now I am expecting to be in agony all through pg, difficulty urinatating and painful sex, but I am scared I wont be able to push the baby out with my crap pelvic floor can anyone reassure?

Hi there Crawling, like you I have a knackered pelvic floor caused by traumatic birth first time round. Only just been referred for physio - 3 years later!!

Am also pregnant and a bit scared about labour.

Am I wrong though, but I don't think the actual pelvic floor muscles do the pushing? Isn't that more the actual uterus and stomach muscles? I may be wrong but I thought the pelvic floor more kind of "keeps stuff in" and you use other muscles to "push stuff out"?

Maybe someone else knows more...

Agree the pelvic floor doesn't do the pushing, just holds everything in! It does recover better from the birth if well-toned though. (And I think is better at stretching without problems too).

Can your physio help? I'd have thought the length of a pregnancy is enough time to really build it up and prevent the problems you had last time.

Thanks both, I feel much better, the treatments my physio uses are not for use in pg. So all I can do is pelvic floors but I am unable to do them Sad But it is good to know it shouldn't effect labor thank you.

GetDownYouWillFall sorry to hear you are also having problems after a difficult first birth if it helps my second was alot better Smile
