C Sec Scar Still Painful 6 months on?

Has anyone else had this so long afterwards? My emergency c took a long time to heal, there were various complications, but even now it's very sensitive and I get pain inside if pressure is applied to it. Just wondered if this was normal or not and if it will go.

Hi NellyE- i had a section 5 months ago and like you i too had complications and my scar didn't heal well. My scar is still still soe too. I am having ultra sound therapy on it with the physio. Maybe go to your dr and ask about it..

I had section 5 months ao, and got an infection in my scar, mine however now is not sensitive at all to touch I occasionally get abit of pain at one side, but it is the side where the infection was and to be honest the pain is bearable and more like a nagging pull. I would suggest you see a Doctor or even a nurse and see what they think, might be nothing but it is always worth checking.

My LO is 7mo and i'm still tender.

My DS was 9 yesterday, and my scar area still hurts. I don't think it ever stops really. I don't mean constant pain, but it hurts if someone pushes me there, or I knock it. Any pressure hurts.

As does bending in certain positions (getting out of the back of 3 door car, carrying infant car seat etc).

I was still having this at 9 months so got a referral to see the consultant. His response was it's either in your head or you're infertile and we won't find out till the next one. My MIL who had 3 cs told me that it's normal to hurt regularly up until a year (hers were rather larger scars). It stopped a about a year and I have got pg again so I think they just underestimate how long the recovery can take. If you're worried get it checked out.

tonythetiger - what a charming consultant [hmmm]

I'm 7 months on and I still get twinges every now and again :(

My little one is 5 months old and the area between my belly button and scar still feels weird - some bits numb, some tingly, some still feel bruised. The scar itself isn't too bad and healed nicely with no infection but I'm not particularly comfortable with the area generally. Is this what other people have found or are your pains purely scar related?

RamonaFlowers · 11/03/2011 23:24

I've had two c-sections, and on both occasions it took over a year to get something like normal feeling back in that area. Although the elective healed more rapidly than the emergency scar.

I have also just had another major op on a broken limb and the sensation is the same. My consultant explained that given how many nerves were severed during the surgery, it would again be approx 12 months or more for normal feeling to resume. C-section surgery is the same.

It's not nice is it? You have my sympathies. That pain doesn't eventually settle down into more of an odd feeling. Skin feels different when touched than other parts of your body.

TBH, I think you are forever aware of it in some corner of your mind, but I have decided to just embrace it rather than continue to think negatively about it.

Ladies, reading this thread makes it sound like the CS scars are "supposed" to hurt. I know a lot of that is solidarity, but I wanted to post a different experience in case anyone else is reading this and scared about theirs.

Everyone's different, and I'm sure having complications alters things, but it doesn't always have to hurt months after a CS. I had a CS in May 09, healed well and I can't remember when it stopped hurting, but by 6 weeks after the birth, I remember that I felt almost normal again down there. I'm now 39 weeks pregnant with #2 and haven't had any problems with the scar. It's still a little numb in patches, but that's about it.

So in answer to the OP, do go see a GP to get checked out. It should fade in time, but they might be able to help speed that up.

Mine was painful for 4 months, then very tender and uncomfortable for at least another 8 months. It has remained tender in spots to this day (DD is 4.8) but didn't cause me any additional discomfort during last pg. It was an emcs but I didn't have any complications with the cs or scar at the time.
