Lochia - how many mat pads to buy

I'm getting my hospital bag together and know I need to buy maternity pads for the lochia. Does anyone have any advice on (roughly) how many pads / packs to buy? Or how many you used per day? I have no idea...

Also I've bought a 4 or 5 pack of disposable knickers - would you get more?

thanks

I bought 3 packs of maternity pads each time which seemed to be enough - used normal pads after that

also a 5 pack of pants should do it :)

2 packs did me I think. After that I used thin towels. Don't overdo it, you can always get more. I only used a couple of pairs of the knickers as I found them a bit uncomfortable. Once I got home I used some very cheap big pants from tesco that were very comfy, kept the pads in place and were nice and cottony

It varies a lot, how long you will bleed for afterwards. With my first, I bled for seven weeks. The next two, only two or three weeks. Heavy bleeding, not that long though, normal towels were fine after a while.

Tenalady pants are fantastic for the first couple of days, with a maternity pad in.

I actually found the maternity pads and really old fashioned 'bricks' a lot comfier than the thin ones for quite a long time - I found the 'dry weave top sheets' (all that advertising has obviously sunk in!) caught my stitches. Ouch Grin

Still bleeding after 4 weeks but on panty liners. First 2 weeks needed mat pads, then san towels - hope it finishes sooooon!

Don't wear paper knickers!

Get some big (the biggest you can find) knickers a few sizes bigger than you were pre-pregnancy - they're far more comfortable and much less ruffly sound wise!

Pads wise, I remember getting through loads, but Tesco man would bring them every week so it wasn't a chore. The bulky maternity pads are nice immediately post partum as they give a nice pressure onto your swollen bits - you'll soon know what I mean!!
