Is or has anyone been involved in OPPTIMUM?

I have signed up to it today (as apparently my history is like gold dust to them), I was told what would happen for the study, but when I have googled it mentions taking something, not too keen on this and it wasn't mentioned so a little annoyed if it is true.
Just wondered if anyone has done it and did you thave to take something?

I have googled it and it sounds like you will either be taking progesterone or a placebo. Are you at risk of pre-term labour? I guess you must be to be accepted onto the trial.

My last child was born at 36+3, and I have a previous cervical procedure history which is why I was asked if I would take part. But there was no mention of this, I suppose I will find out more when I have swab appointment.

I'm not on it, but I'm taking progesterone suppositories all the same (PTL risk plus I have a cervical cerclage in place). People have been taking it for years - in the UK in pessary form and in the US in injection form (weekly) where it's known as 17P. It really is proven to help.

There are theoretical risks but they are tiny and from what I recall, nothing has been proven conclusively yet. However there is a huge amount of evidence to suggest it can really reduce the chances of preterm labour.

I guess they're just doing yet more research to prove things a bit further with this study. But it's nothing super shiny new, just slightly newish!

Thank you Sparklies, that's what I needed to hear, I was concerned the medication wasn't widely used or used at all. It's good to know it has been around for a while.

I'm actually currently on double the dose for the trial which is interesting!!

It has been around for ages.. it was pretty common back in 2008 when I was pregnant with DC2 (I was prescribed the 17P injections by a US doctor back then). Certainly even my local crappy hospital knew about progesterone therapy for PTL back then. Even my GP knew about it this time out when I get repeat prescriptions.

I'm actually quite surprised they're still doing new studies but I'm not a researcher so maybe people just like proving things over and over again or something!
