I had ds1 in Rottenrow, now gone completely! Had ds2 in the Southern General. Good and bad stories about both really.

What's a VBA2C? Or a doula?
Can't imagine what these are!

vaginal birth after caesarian and a doula is a sort of midwifey natural birth type person - apoogies to any doulas but not quite sure of exact job descriotion!
was there really a hospital called Rottenrow?!

i had both dd in princess royal and apart from the shocking food, i had a positive experience. i had a lot of trouble with bf dd1 and was kept in hospital until things improved. the hospital also arranged for bf support on the day i gor home. good luck

mumofelise · 21/10/2005 09:49

the rottonrow was glasgow royal maternity but street was called rottonrow something

mears · 21/10/2005 11:54

Rottenrow got it's name from the street it was in. It has been closed and is now the new Princess Royal Maternity.

I trained at the Queen Mothers

Whichwever hospital is closest to you would be fine - they are both good hospitals (there will always be stories about any hospital)

You'll always get different stories but I love the Queen Mums. Had emergency section first time and VBAC second, staff were lovely. It's a bit old and shabby but IMO the best.

Friend had son at Princess Royal and is now suing hospital for negligence.

This probably confuses you even more. There is a lot of controversy surrounding maternity services in Glasgow at the mo. There are 3 hospitals and they wanted to reduce them to 2.

QM is right next to Childrens Hospital so if something goes wrong your baby is in the best care in Britain right next door. They wanted to close the QM last year but met with such opposition that it stayed open. Their argument was that there was no adult emergency hospital on site should the mother require treatment. I would point out that the Western Hospital is about 500 yards away. The southern general does have an adult part but the hospital is so sprawling that it is actually further from the maternity unit than the QM and Western and has no childrens unit

Princess Royal also has Royal Infirmiry next to it but no childrens unit.

How far on are you?

LynnC · 26/10/2005 13:55

I had dd at QM. No horror stories to tell apart from wards were a bit dirty (not delivery room!)but midwives who delivered dd were absolutely fantastic. Also agree with Pagan thought of Yorkhill next door just incase was also comforting. Good luck - when you due?

One thing to maybe consider is as far as I know you get different screening at different trusts I don't think (according to my friend who had a baby at Princess Royal last year) that any Greater Glasgow Trust hospitals do 18/20 week scan as routine but the QM does CUBS screening at 10-13 weeks. see link
queen mums

Just another bit of info hope it helps

carlypen · 28/10/2005 14:00

aargh - feel so confused - am only 12 weeks at moment and haven't yet had scan or seen consultant. on advice of midwife i changed from QM to PR hospital and now not so sure. after reading lots of replies to vbac not even sure if i want to risk vaginal after 2 caesarians????? can i still change hospitals at this stage?
thanks for all replies
