Being induced tomorrow

...and I'm feeling pretty frightened given some of the expereinces that fellow MNs have shared here. I'm 41+5 with DC1. I know I could delay it and I have done once already but they are concerned about my blood pressure.

Does anyone have any positive stories to share to send me on my way? Smile

Lots of people are induced every single day. :) Mostly it's just a helping hand to get you on your way and afterwards you get to meet your baby.

I've had a failed induction, nothing painful, it just didn't work. Pretty sure I'm in the minority though and I still got to have a lovely birth with a lovely healthy child at the end. Good luck. HTH

I've had 4 inductions. The more overdue I was the better it went.

The worst one was my first baby, 7 days overdue (I've waited until +17 days with the next one and still didn't go into labour!), they started my on the Thursday night and I didn't deliver until early hours of Sat morning - however didn't need ventouse or anything although I did end up with an epidural!

4 inductions later my advice would be refuse continuous monitoring (except for 45 mins after the pessary), stay upright/mobile as much as possible, use a tens machine as soon as you have any pain at all.

My other bit of encouragement is that they are doing it for a valid reason and having a healthy baby at the end of it is worth the unpleasantness that induction can be. My 4th induction was fantastic, I was chilled about it and it was such a doddle I actually told them "I'd do that again tomorrow!" - painful but managable IYSWIM.

Good luck Shirty, am very near being in the same situation as you (40+10) and worried too. There was another thread sharing positive induction stories, worth a look.

I'll look it out. In the meantime, my waters have broken!

Hurrah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go ShirtyGerty - I am Envy - I had to ARM's and they really hurt!

i've been induced twice, first time was term +13 and whole labour only took 8 hours and was pretty ok
the secod time I was term+3 - my waters went but nothing happened so had to get induced but just needed pessary. This time whole thing took about less than 7 hours and was much easier. I used Tens machine and gas and air and had morphine right at the end when it was actually much too late as baby arrived 15min later.
good luck, maybe things will get going on their own now anyway

Great news!

I was 42 +5 with ds1 and induced.

I had a pessary at 9pm after being monitored for 1/2 hour, and was then monitored again for another hour. I was told that I'd probably get some prostin pains that would be uncomfortable but nothing to worry about.

After that I was free to move around. About midnight I started getting some tightenings so was given cocodamol, they carried on so I put on my TENS machine. After about an hour of this, the mw advised a hot bath as I was a bit uncomfortable. I wallowed in the bath for ages, topping it up with hot as needed. The tightenings continued and were gradually getting stronger but I'd taken off my watch so wasn't timing them. After a good whilethe mw asked if I was ok. I was, but the tightenings were really strong by then so she offered to examine me. I turned out that I wasn't having prostin pains but proper contractions and I was 9cms dilated!

Ds1 was born at 5am.

Good luck OP

xx
