Hello all,

I was a little confused about what to put into my hospital bag for the labour in terms of clothing(or if they give you something at the hospital?....). Primark "boyfriend shirt" pjs in their largest size barely button up on me now (at only 31 weeks Blush. a Huge xxxxl t-shirt? But aren't hospital clothes supposed to have buttons or ties through the back?

After some googling, these are what seemed to be most sensible results:

  • UK site with free delivery, gowns at 30-40 pounds (exact same can be bought on amazon)
www.theprettycompany.com/shop/maternity-gowns/

Not a lot of money, but still......
So

the pattern itself is here:
www.lazygirldesigns.com/PDF/hospital_gown_A.pdf

I have not tied sewing it yet, but looks pretty simple to make

Hope this helps somebody
Good luck with everything!

You wear whatever you feel comfortable in.

Be that a baggy t shirt, a grubby old nightie or nothing at all.

But if you are happy to make your pwn gown then go for it.

Lovely but not needed - stick to a big T shirt and the hospital will give you a gown if you need one. Both times I just wore a normal T shirt and whipped my knickers off at the last min!

You don't need to have the hospital style gown with the ties at the back!

I wore an old t-shirt of DHs and stretched it to buggery (not that he cared) and by the end of labour I wanted the thing off because I was so hot, only I couldn't pull it off because of the drip in my hand, and didn't have the presence of mind to ask for it to be cut off (induction)

It seems a lot of effort to go to to make one, especially seeing as it's probably going to end up stained and a bit manky!

I remember feeling very concerned about what kind of garment would be appropriate for labour the first time round.

As it turned out, I ended up wearing a maternity bra and enormous knickers (with a sanitary towel bulging out) and I honestly couldn't have cared if a brass band had come marching through.

If I end up having to go in this time (hoping for HB - again!), I'll wear a skirt/dress to go in (ease of access for VEs) but beyond that I'll just ask for a gown. I lost a brand new big tshirt nightie I bought specially last time (most bargainous from Asda, but still!) after getting in the birth pool, never saw it again after that!

Yip, just wear a manky old nightie, then you can just chuck it in the bin once you're done! Also, wear old knickers, mine had to get cut off with scissors as moving and getting them past all the monitors/wires was to much bother.

Sounds like a big (very very big) t-shirt wins Smile

Thank you so very much, ladies! It is a relief to know that there is no need to worry about dress code Grin

All the very best to you!
