Giving birth alone - any reassuring stories?

I am 31 weeks with my first baby and not planning on having a birth partner during labour. The first midwife I spoke to was quite reassuring about this but since then everyone I tell seems shocked, as if this is really unusual, and says i should rethink things. As that's not really an option, I would really appreciate any positive stories from people in the same situation, as i am getting a bit anxious!

Hi Daisy,

I had DS alone. It was a very happy and positive experience and the best day of my life. I was (still am) a single mother and not close enough to any family member/friend to have wanted them present. I made a very detailed birth plan - and the midwives read it, hooray! I laboured alone on antenatal and then went down to delivery for the last couple of hours where a midwife sat very quietly in the corner in case she was needed. She may have come in and out I don't know - was dozing on gas and air!

I'm so happy I stuck to my decision to give birth alone, I knew it was best for me. I'd do it again in a minute though am unlikely to have any more kids tbh. The whole thing was very empowering and an experience I look back on when I'm ever in the need of a self-belief/confidence boost.

Have a great birth whoever is or isn't there Smile
