C-section 16 days ago - Am I overdoing it?

I had my gorgeous baby girl 16 days ago by c-section. My bleeding had all but stopped after a few days but has started again a couple of days ago. Does this indicate I've been overdoing it? Its half term and we have been getting out for a couple of hours in the morning for the sake of my other two DC's. I do feel a bit woozy as well today, but then nights aren't going so well and I am tired. Oh and I have a slight temperature.

I would have said that it all sounds normal, but then you mentioned feeling woozy and having a temperature. I would suggest you call your GP and speak to them about how you are feeling. It might just be the start of a cold, but then again it could be the start of an infection from the birth/surgery.

Maybe you have overdone it a bit. I am 7 days post C Section and can barely do anything! Well done though for being such a trooper. I have had 2 previous sections and with both it was nearly 3 weeks before i set foot out of the house!

Is it half term for you? Can you put your feet up a bit more next week?

yep, ring your GP as you feel unwell, have a temp and bleeding has increased. Hopefully they will suggest antibiotics. Good luck.

Thanks all. I saw the GP this afternoon and he reckons I'm ok but he has suggested iron tablets as I'm feeling a bit rough. Feeling a bit better this evening after an afternoon in bed resting.

grippinon, yes its half term and yes, I think it'll be easier next week when the other two are back at school and preschool. I've just wanted life to continue as normal for them and have tried (maybe too hard) to make sure they've had a good time.

Hi Snow. Just keep an eye on your temperature. If it keeps flaring or doesn't settle then call your GP (out of hours if need's be) as a temp can be a sign of infection.

Hope you feel well soon and congrats on your baby girl. I know it's hard but maybe hit the sofa for a few hours and watch a film. Or have a shower and chuck your dressing gown on and go to bed - that way you'll feel less tempted to rush about doing various household jobs. It might just be that you need to take things a bit easier.

Thanks kits. I do feel much better today and I am currently sitting on sofa while kids play, baby sleeps and DH organises dinner. I do feel a bit lazy though!

Lazy is good, especially when you have a baby. We all feel the need to plunge in and be heroic/carry on as normal and I think actually we need to take a big step back and consider what our body has just gone through. Birth is hard enough but throw in a c-section and it's pretty hard core. You had major abdominal surgery just over two weeks ago. If you've had a temperature spike and an increase in bleeding then it's a sign that you've pushed yourself a bit. You'll heal much better and more quickly the easier you take things. I completely overdid it after my c section (not much choice after premmie twins) and I really regret it - I bled for yonks (7 weeks) and felt bloody ill until about weeek 5. I think if I'd donned my dressing gown and set up camp on the sofa everyone would have looked after me and I'd have healed much easier.

Enjoy your sofa day and try and do it again tomorrow, at least for a couple of hours. It will do you the power of good.

Take it easy for a while longer. No point in messing up your recovery just to get the other dc's out of the house. I didn't do anything for 6 weeks after my second cs, felt much better for it and didn't need much pain relief.

I must be a bad example but Dd is just over 3 weeks old and from last week I've just about been doing normal stuff! Mostly as I have two dc already and they need a mum to do stuff. Dh went back to work after 2 weeks. I think you do what you feel like you can do? I avoid lifting heavy stuff where I can and don't wear myself out.
