C Section 5 days ago - stitches undoing

Has anyone else experienced this, am in a panic sorry if rambling....
Had a c section on 18th feb, I have a beautiful healthy son and am very grateful. However, one stitch came undone and bled yesterday morning. I immediately rang the hospital who said wait for the midwife who is coming anyway. She did come and took a swab (of blood) and then left. It began to burn in that area yesterday and puss like snot was present. It kept sticking to clothes and the sanitary towel I was advised to put over it so every time I went to tghe toilet it opened up again so in desperation I tipped talc all over it to dry it up this morning.

Long story short (baby just woke) another stitch has just gone and is bleeding. I am so scared of infection or all the stitches coming undone now I have no confidence in the wound at all. I do have a community nurse coming tomorrow to dress the wound. Would be interested to know if this has happened to anyone else Sorry if this doesn't all make sense i have a 5 day old and am in a panic about my would thank you.

Have you rang them again to tell them that it's getting worse? I would be making a big fuss if I were you as you don't want to get an infection!

ring your mw or get a gp appointment. I had mastitis at 5 days post CS and mw ame round immediately and sorted out an emergency gp appt to get some antibiotics. If there is an infection you will need these asap. Hope you are feeling ok

I have sprayed the whole thing with savlon powder iodine spray from chemists, not sure anything I wrote is clear, GP arranged for community nurse to come first thing in the morning to dress the wound, I don't think there is any more they can do at this time of night, I just need to wait until morning. Midwife is also coming tomorrow so I will be more assertive being as another stitch has gone since she was here this morning, and will insist on antibiotics.
Thank you.

It's sod's law because the baby is absolutely brilliant and if it wasn't for this technical hitch everything would be going so well Sad

I had similar (haematoma behind my scar which pushed my section scar open). It sounds like you have an infection. Can you call your GP. There will be an out-of-hours number on the answer machine message - if you're really worried they'll have a drop in clinic at the hospital where you'll be able to have the wound re-swabbed, dressed and given antibiotics. If nothing else, it gives you peace of mind, which is so important when you've just had a baby (congratulations by the way) and are feeling a bit physically and emotionally bashed. I think the sooner you get antibiotics the easier it is to shift the infection so don't be fobbed off.

Also if you've got any tea tree oil then a couple of drops of this in a small glass of warm water dabbed onto the scar can really help (tea tree is antibiotic and antiseptic), I bathed my wound a few times through the day with cotton wool dipped in the tea-tree water and it helped. Don't use a hairdryer to dry it - just a clean flannel or some kitchen towel. Try and get air to it as well (I'd take the sanitary towel off as this will probably be keeping it nice and warm and moist which is just what infection likes).

Most of all congratulations and don't worry - once you've got some antibiotics they'll kick in really quickly and things will clear up.

I would echo others who say to get antibiotics asap.

I had an infection in my scar five days post-birth. Lots of puss coming out of middle section of scar, accompanied by fever and abdominal pain (in addition to usual pain from operation). I didn't get it treated straight away, ended up going back into hospital for the next week, receiving antibiotics via drip (after a 6 hour wait in the middle of the night for some pain relief - I'm not bitter!).

You haven't mentioned a fever, so I'm sure you're not as bad (don't want to panic you) but just wanted to stress how important it is to be assertive because, if you do have an infection, by catching it early you'll more than likely be able to take oral antibiotics at home - much nicer!

I would get to your GP asap.

Don't put anymore talc or anything on it, just swab it 2/3 times a day with the tea tree solution.

I had a horribly infected c-section scar, and I was provided with dressings to use that had silver and seaweed in them, as well as sterile pads and sterile saline solution to use to clean it.
This was all organised by a midwife at my hospital who specialised in moist wound healing.

thank you so so much for reassuring replies, district nurse has been applied cream and dressing and is coming back saturday am to do same again so am feeling much better today as its not sticking to pad or clothes - phew :-)

and had no temp so hopefully no infection at all, thank goodness for post baby hysteria which kicked in at first sign!

i had 2 sections before with no probs healing at all hence inability to deal with smallest scar issue!

thanks again, i feel all warm inside Smile

Great news. Glad you feel better. It's amazing how reassured you can feel once it is being treated isn't it? I felt like a different person as opposed to the panicked wreck.

Try and get plenty of air to it and use the tea tree solution for bathing as this will just aid the healing process and speed things up.
