Is this normal treatment for induction?

Is this sort of thing the norm?

Have had an induction booked that should be happening tomorrow. Ring up today to confirm and they tell me they are v busy so no antenatal space for me tomorrow. Instead, I have to ring up tomorrow and be told if they have space on a 'day unit' for me to be induced at, which seems to be a room with a TV and possibly another room with a few beds (was quite unclear). They won't really know even when I get there though if and when I will have the induction process started as depends on their fullness, so, I could be sitting around all day waiting for nothing only to be told to go home and come back the next day (as no where for me to spend the night). I just like to know what's happening and when and this is freaking me out a bit.

unfortunately - yes, although its not common, it does happen.

to be induced, you are classed as high risk.
If labour ward is full of labourers it is not safe to then start inducing a labour that will be clased as high risk to add to the numbers.

It also depends on the reson for induction - for example, if you are ill with pre-eclampsia, then that would not be post-poned as it it too dangerous to leave it.
Likewise, if baby is small for dates or otherwise poorly and would be safer out, then that would not be postponed.

however, tomorrow is another day - things change frequently on labour ward and it may be all different tomorrow.

Alot of induction involves waiting around - generally - pessary, wait 6 hours, another pessary....wait six hours.....so you are best being mobile and going off the ward anyway for a walk around.

i know its scary not knowing what will happen- fingers crossed its all sorted tomorrow and if not, you will be told of the plan for your labour.
.....unless of course you go into natural labour tonight x

I was induced and I turned up on the day and sent home as they were full. I then came back in the evening still full, so came back the next day. They wanted to send me off home again as they were still really busy but I was 40 weeks and 14 days then and it went against policy to not start the induction. Good luck though!

I wish I'd been sent home. I went in at the time I was booked for, was given 1st pessary which kicked things off (very painfully)within an hour or so. I was then left contracting for 36 hours before they broke my waters due to the ward being too busy. Was not nice and I was exhausted by the time the drip went up.

Not sure if that's normal or not, but would much rather have been at home!

I went in at 13 days over with DS and as I was 3cms already they wouldnt give me the gel but it was too busy to actively break my waters so I spent 3 horrid nights in that ward watching women come in and leave with their babies. It also happened to be the hottest days of the year - blergh. DH had a small hissy fit on +16 and they found space for me that evening to be induced, DS ended up in EMCS at +17. So all in all if they are that busy I'd much prefer to wait at home!!!
