Hiya

I had DD 3 months ago, birth was a bit rough, I ended up with an episotomy (sp?) and tear and lots of internal/ external stitches and its still quite sore. Ive been to see the nurse and she said there's no infection but I've got to wait awhile for an appointment with my female GP. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hiya. I had an episiotomy three months ago to the day. Even though the stitches have totally healed and the wound has closed, I still don't feel quite right. It's hard to explain, not painful as such, but still uncomfortable. My GP had a look a couple of weeks ago, and she said it just sill looks a bit "raw", and that you can't really put a timeframe on when it will feel completely better, but every day it seems to improve a little bit. I know it's really unpleasant, but I don't think it sounds as though there is anything wrong. Do see your GP though. Sorry, I don't think I've said anything helpful, but sending you a lot of supportive thoughts!

A friend of mine (no, really, a friend) had quite a lot of stitching and went to see a specialist of some kind who helped her with it.

I had an episiotomy myself 2.5 years ago and internal tearing. I've always had a feeling that things weren't quite right down there since then, but haven't bothered getting it sorted as I knew we would try for another (am currently pg) and I suspect I'll tear or have another epi. Once I've had DC2 I might ask to go to a specialist if I still feel the same.

Have you tried the freezable gel pad inserts or just sitting on something warm/cold? Sorry, don't know what else to suggest. I found the gel insert things quite soothing.

Took me 6 months to be completely back to normal... just try and take it easy with whatever makes the soreness worse (for me it was walking for long periods and sex!).

Thanks for the replies, I feel better knowing its not 'just me'.

Walking any distance definitely makes it more sore, not tried sex anything else yet Metalhead

Olivetti it seemed to be improving for several weeks, swelling went down, numbness went etc but now it feels like its not doing anything. No worse but not improving.

The nurse said its still very bruised looking and the scar is quite hard and lumpy. Guess I just need to be patient :)

I had an episiotomy first time and a butcher tried to sew me up. He was sooooooo bad that the midwives made him leave and then someone else came in, undid what he had done and then redid me!

After a couple of months things did not feel right so I went to see a consultant at the hospital (who said, oh yes I heard about this Hmm). His suggestion was have the scar tissue removed but then more could come back. Luckily for me a friend had told me just days before of someone she knew who had ultrasound for her scar tissue which solved the problem. I mentioned this to the consultant who agreed and I was booked on for a course and it all got sorted out :)

Second time I tore and had no problems after at all!

Thanks knackered, will mention that to GP :)

Can you describe what it feels like? 3 months on, the area feels sensitive. And sometimes walking or holding anything heavy feels like there’s a pulling or stinging down there. Is that normal?
