mears. In your view, what makes someone an ideal candidate for a homebirth? would you advise a patient to have a homebirth if they lived 10 miles away from their hospital? ps. wish there were more out there like you.

An ideal candidate for a homebirth is a woman who wants one! If pregnancy is progressing normally and all is well, then homebirth is fine. 10 miles from one hospital can take longer to travel than 10 miles from inner city hospital. Distance is more of a factor if it was difficult to get help if needed ie difficult country road with access by foot (which happens). Are you thinking of a homebirth?

well , maybe, but only reason being that im worried about not getting there on time. This is no 4 and no 3 we only just made it to the hospital.its not as if I think being at home would be wonderful, so I guess you've answered my question, thanks!

Go for it bubblepop. It has to be better than giving birth en route.

A friend of mine with a history of short labours recently had a 50min labour. Car out of petrol, her DH had to fill up before taking her to hospital and drop other 2 kids elsewhere. It was rush hour and they got less than 2 miles into the 5 mile journey before they couldn't get any further. Ambulance turned up and took her 200yds to nearest car park where she gave birth to a baby girl.

Wouldn't it be so much nicer to do it at home?
