Do I class as fast labor?

DS back to back 23 hours till 2 1/2 cms (but was admitted and having constant cc all the way through) then 1 hour from 2 1/2cms to baby out.

DD 14 hours of regular cc to 4cms then a hour from 4cms to baby out.

So even though I am in agony (just as much before 3cms as after) by the time I have been allowed in hospital there is no time for pain relief. I am now pg on DC3 should I be careful?

I'm not sure. I understand you are concerned, but I'm not sure it would class as 'fast' - for example mine were born in 8 hours for ds1 and 3.5 hours start to finish with ds2 (who was also back to back).

I would put it on your notes that you tend to progress quickly after 3-4cm, so that they know to give you pain relief in advance this time.

I hope they do and you have a less painful experience x

That is why I am confused as well Ingrid I was very stressed on DD because I knew once I hit 3 cms I would go very fast but as I have a long latent stage and no warning that I have hit 3cms I was worried.

I think you should talk to your midwife about it and try and emphasise that you were refused pain relief last time and it makes you very anxious.

Hopefully she will have some ideas of how to make sure it doesn't happen again.

btw I had nothing with my second...I was about half an hour before giving birth and screaming that I wanted to be transferred to the hospital for an epidural, because Iw as going to break in half.

The Irish midwife looked at me, dishevelled in my bath at home and said 'there's two answers to that. Bob hope, and No hope' Grin

I am hoping for a 30 minute labour next time. I might be able to sleep through that.

Crawling · 11/02/2011 11:03

Thanks again I am not to worried about no pain relief, more worried about delivering on my own. I am Grin at a 30 minute labor.

Yes self delivering is to be avoided imo as well. It's classed under 'things I will refuse to think about if I ever become pregnant again' Grin

Grin I might make DP take a crash delivery course then he can deal with the stress and worry Grin

1st - 4hrs
2nd - about 25 mins {shock]
Turns out I have what's called silent and precipitate labour. Painless and fast...till the end!!! Labours were longer, but that was as long as I felt them for, silent meaning I have no idea I'm mildly contracting for hours or even days. I was in hospital for a checkup with no 2, midwife asked if I relised I was in labour? Cue blank looks from five then waters popped.Confused Blush.
No's 3 & 4 I was induced so they could control my labours, slowish to get going as 2 weeks early, but once started no stopping me. 5cm to fully dialated in 4-5 mins of back to back contractions with no 3!
Don't ask about no 5, full blown Eclampsia with seizures, just glad we both survived.

My two first were almost exactly the same as fiveisanawfullybignumber above and I worried about giving birth on my own with 2 kids around (DS2 was born 4 minutes after ambulance people arrived), but I actually got more "warning" this time around with semi painful contractions, although actual labour was ridiculously fast.

I used the birth pool to slow things down a bit, worked brilliantly Wink

Fiveisanawfullybignumber Shock

I am hoping this time for a shorter 1st stage, also hoping for a homebirth.
