Birth pool hose tap connector - NOTHING fits!

We ordered our birth pool (La Bassine) with a universal tap connector but it doesn't fit our kitchen tap. This is the only mixer tap in the house. It is not a particularly unusual shape. I cannot find any other types of connector online. Has anyone had a similar problem? What did you do?

The tap is one of those curvy stainless steel jobs shaped sort of like an upside down umbrella handle. The diameter is wider than the diameter of the hose.

Any ideas? DH has resigned himself to taking many trips up and down our kitchen stairs with buckets, which I think is ridiculous and will just irritate me beyond belief when I'm in labour! (Which may not be that far off, am 38+4...)

Would something like this do the trick?

They do a smaller version too.

Yes we had the same problem.

We found that Homebase do various sizes of universal mixer tap connections - measure your tap diameter and then go look in store.

We had the same problem. DH whittled a connector so it would fit our square tap (prev occupants of house had designer ambitions), But on the day it didn't work. We had to fill the pool (small la bassine) with a bucket and a large jam pan. DH carried them through to the front room, while I leant on the kitchen counter and turned the tap off and on as the bucket got full - slightly pointless but took my mind off the contractions. Only took about an hour and I was too excited to be irritated. Think it would have been close to an hour with a hose anyway.

Remember to turn the water temp on your boiler up beforehand. And down again afterwards.

Enjoy the pool - I Ioved ours!

Try a local DIY store (BandQ, Wickes etc).

That being said about 70% of the time I end up filling the entire pool with buckets (I'm a doula so filling birth pools is something I do alot). It's not that bad as long as you have one person filling and one person looking after you!

What about this we have this on our mixer tap which is a bit of a cheap funny shape :o

crazycatlady · 08/02/2011 20:50

Oh good tip about turning the water temp up on the boiler!

That Hozelock one looks like the right shape, but our tap diameter is 23mm... will see if B&Q do a bigger one. Good to know it's not too awful filling with buckets if needs be. DH plays in the front row (rugby) and used to powerlift competitively so I'm sure he'll enjoy the challenge Wink

oh no just read op properly, I don't think mine will work!

crazycatlady · 08/02/2011 20:51

MrsTickle that's the shape connector that came with the pool. Looks like it should fit any tap but doesn't fit the umbrella shaped ones. Very irritating!

I've had three waterbirths at home, first time we had to do buckets and then hose and buckets for nos 2 and 3. We did something fancy with a funnel and duct tape subsequently Grin
