Anyone unhappy with how their episiotomy healed?

Hi Ladies, It is being suggested to me I may well need to have mine redone under a general anaesthetic as its sore still and has not healed well at all and I have lots of bowel urgency and its very itchy still. I am looking to hear from women who have opted to have this surgery and if they feel it was a good decision?

Thanks.

Hi Kitten30, sorry to hear you are having these problems. There is a thread on General Health about women who have had injuries like this in childbirth. I don't have any advice myself, but I know there will be people on there who can help.

Hope it goes well for you.

Not sure how to do proper links to a thread, but it is on this page here

Hi Kitten30, I'm not sure if this is the same thing, but I had my episiotomy repaired under a general anaethetic a week after giving birth, but this was because it had 'broken down'.

I still have bowel urgency though, and am having physio to help - I don't think having the repair would help with this, as I think its probably more to do with damage to the muscles (though I may be wrong). I have to say the actual repair job is very neat, pretty sure its better than when I was stitched the first time - no itching, but have lost a lot of feeling due to scar tissue and the scar still hurts if I press it (this is 8 months later) so obviously I avoid doing that! :)

I had a Fenton's Procedure, where they excise the site of the original episiotomy / tear and re-stitch the area late last year, over 4 years after having DD. I can honestly say that it's one of the best decisions that I've ever made, although the prospect was scary at the time as I'd had such an awful time after having the initial stitches. The recovery was literally a matter of days (with painkillers) and I wish that I'd had it done years ago.
