If waters break in birth pool?

I've got mine ready filled up and having contractions (every 10 minutes), I was in it earlier and it was lovely but the contractions did slow down a bit.

I worry if my waters break while in it, will the pool get "dirty" and I won't be able to use it anymore?

Don't worry it is fine for your waters to go in the pool. Pretty soon there will be all sorts floating in there Grin (not that you will notice!)

My waters broke in the pool, then two pushes later baby arrived. I wouldn't worry it doesn't mean you have to get out of the pool. It's fine you don't even notice anything. x Good luck

Think logically about this - what has your baby been floating in for the last 9 months?

If you are in early labour, then I wouldn;t use the birthing pool yet as it might slow down labour.

Keep as mobile as possible, walk up and down the stairs for example.

I only used the pool for the last hour or so of labour, longer then that might get very tiring.

Waters are not dirty in any way. In most cases the waters break towards the end of second stage if labour is left to progress at it's own pace so normal for waters to go in the pool.

MollysChambers · 03/02/2011 16:57

Wouldn't worry.

I presume you have your sieve to hand? Wink

Good luck!

My waters broke with DD2 when I was in the birth pool. Nothing to worry about, like SoupDragon said, you baby has been in that water for 9 months! Even though I was in the birth pool, it was enough of a "gushing" sensation to know that it was my waters.

Good luck!

thanx everyone for the quick replies. Felt the need to push way before MWs arrived so managed to slow it down by getting back into the pool.

Waters broke after I started pushing and just minutes before my little girl appeared.
