2nd birth slower than 1st (induced) birth????

1st labour was induced and only 3.5 hrs from first contraction to baby being born. It was far too fast, body not ready, horrible tearing etc and I went into shock.

Does this mean I labour quickly, or was it artificially quick because of the syntocin? Will my 2nd labour be quicker, or does the speed of the 1st have no bearing on the 2nd seen as it was artificially induced?

Anyone got any experience?

I wuld say it will be faster. I was induced with my first, but it took an agonising 14 hours. Second labour was a fast 3.5 hours, but an amazing experienc ein comparison, no pain relief and back to normal almost immediately. I would say though that that is very quick for a first birth, I'd ask your midwife for advice if you suspect a very quick birth may be on the cards. And no messing either I was adament I had to have a shower before I left for the hospital, it was only due to dp telling me we needed to go now that we got there in time

Syntocin does tend to speed things up so you probably would have had a longer labour if not induced.

FWIW I was induced with DC1 and laboured for 13.5hrs.

I went into spontaneous labour with DC2 and laboured for 17hrs.

No-one else? I'm hoping for dozens if answers so I can decide how likely I am to have a superfast scary labour

I think it would be unwise to bank on having longer because, yes, induced births are quick but so are second labours however a natural labour may well be the same length but due to it being a natural process hopefully the consequences (shock, tearing etc) won't be so big.

How you were induced may also make a big difference and how long it took for the induction to take effect. Different methods of induction can result in quicker or slower labours.

Thanks snap, that's helpful. I was induced with the syntocin drip, they had said the day before that I didn't need the gel, think I was maybe already bit effaced and a bit dilated? There was 4hrs between drip going in and first contraction.
