hi i am 5 weeks pregnant. i not been to doc yet, but will soon.
i had to have an emergency c section with my first baby 13 months ago as i had not progressed well enough in first stages of labour and dd was getting distressed. i was in labour for 30 hours in total and my waters were broken for many hours before dd was born.
so this time will i be allowed to just have an elective c section. or if i did have a natural birth would there be any complications.
also if i do go for c section, do they use same incision line as last one. and also do they let you home sooner as i was in for 5 days with first c section.
cant think of anything else right now, but sure there will b lots more questions to come.

thanks

I have had 2 ELCS (only 1 scar!). My insurance company weren't interested at all in the fact that I'd had surgery. I drove after 2 weeks with #1 and 8 days with #2.

I have had 3 sections; first one was due to baby being breech; second was an emergency one after trying for VBAC (but long story); third was planned section, but ended up as an emergency one as went into labour early.

I have 3 separate scars, although all very close together and not too awful.

With my second pregnancy (in the UK) I was offered an elective section as I had had a section with my first child.

With my third pregnancy (outside of the UK) I was told that it would have to be a section (although I had been told in the UK that any future deliveries would have to be by c-section).

I've had two sections. First one was like you for failure to progress (mine after a failed induction lasting 55 hours). Second was elective.

My consultant was wonderful and totally left the choice up to me, while informing me about both options. What he said to me was that if I intended to have more than 3 children I should try to have a VBAC with this baby as more than three CS are potentially quite dangerous (I think risk of placental praevia increases with CS).

He also said that if I did try for a VBAC I would have to go into labour naturally (which I didn't do last time) as they would not induce, and they would not leave me in labour for a very long time. This is in case of rupture.

Elective was a lovely experience. Very calm - lasted half an hour from start to finish. It also really helped with regards to getting DS ready and making sure we had care for him while we were at the hospital (although nearly didn't work out as CS was brought forward a week due to high BP).

I recovered really well from both my CSs so no noticeable difference in that from me.

They went through the same scar as last time.
