Whittington or UCH?

After a bit of a gap I've discovered I'm pregnant with my 3rd. I've been offered either the Whittington or the UCH. I want to have a hospital birth but I'm not sure which one to go for? Any advice? Confused

I am going to be no help. Had the same choice, opted for UCH because...errr....I was born there Grin

Had my booking in appointment today. Big, clean, friendly but not really much to judge. Got a huge tick in my book as I had a 9am appt and was seen on time!

I am only 8 weeks so would be keen to hear from someone who has past the finish post!

I had both DDs in UCH,but in the old building as the new one was about to be opened a few months after DD2 was born.My consultant was wonderful and the staff in the birthing centre too.The whit used to be a terrible hospital but apparently the new maternity unit is really good.I would go for UCH though,as I think if there is any problem then they have some really good staff.

Which is closest? if you'll be having your antenatal care at the hospital, it might actually come down to where you can be bothered to trek to when pregnant!

I have heard good things about the Whit, in terms of the quality of midwife care and approach to natural birth, however, UCH has an excellent repuation for more high risk pregnancies and one of the best SCBU in the country.

I had my second child at UCH the year before last (after horrific first experience at the Royal Free). It was just after the new wing had opened, and could not fault them. I would go back, definitely.

I agree that if anything goes wrong at any point,UCH is the place to be.There were concerns about abnormal growth in dd1 when I was 30 odd weeks pregnant. It looked as though she had an abnormally large abdomen.I was seen by the European expert in the field within a week after one 'phone call from my consultant.I was scanned very carefully by him and reassured all was well.

Thank-you so much ladies! I registered with Mumsnet when I was pregnant with my 2nd 7 years ago but was too scared to post as I didn't understand any of the lingo!
I'm so grateful for your replies.
I am now 37 so I'm not sure if I'm a geriatric mum or not and I'm midway between both hospitals so I think maybe UCH has it!
Thanks again. Smile
