Provideing a pg goes well can they refuse you a home birth?

This is my third child and I thought about a home birth on my second but I didn't ask till it was too late Sad. So I am thinking about it sooner this time, when do you need to ask for a home birth?

I feel strangly nervous about the idea I am seeing the mw Monday and thought I would get my place early this time. It is a good idea for me yes? I am 5 minutes from hospital my first was 24 hrs back to back but I didn't have pain relief my second was lovely.

Were you nervous about having the baby in the house alone the first night?

They can try to tell you you have to come in due to not having enough MWs on the night but in reality if you stand firm and tell them you are refusing to come into hospital they have to send you a MW. It depends on how arsey you want to be.

I had both of mine at home and it was lovely :)

With my first I did get a call one day to say that if I went into labour that night I would have to go in as they had several of the community MWs who cover the HBs off sick but thankfully I didn't go into labour then. I thought that was fair enough, they had thought very nicely to let me know in advance and it was a genuine problem.

HB sounds great for you, no need to panic though an dno need ot really make up your mind now. Even if just considering it it is best ot book in for home birth as it is much easier to change your mind and go into hospital than it is to change your mind last minute and stay home :)

I don't think they can refuse but they can advise against it. I'm planning a HB in a few weeks, just had the MW around today to explain how it all works and she said that in the (extremely rare) case that they don't have the staff then I should go into the hospital. Obviously they can't force you but then they can't guarantee that a MW will be able to get to you in time, especially if they have to travel from another area.

My MW asked me if I would consider a HB when I was at my 16 week appointment (I think), they are very pro-HB around here.

I've found this site really useful for research.

Thanks my area has a bad csec and instrumental rate, no birthing pools, only standard epidural. When I had my DC2 out of 13 I was the only one who had a natural (e.g non csec or instrumental) birth Sad. Also looked up and we have the lowest home birth rate in Wales Sad so that has made me worried I wont be able to get one and this is my last Smile

It is so great to hear your stories thank you I am strangly nervous that link looks great thanks I will have a look later, I am grateful for any information on this.
