What do you wear after CS?

I have tracksuits and jogging bottoms to bum about in but I am now having an ELCS as baby is breech. All my planned clothes sit pretty low and I think they will rub in my stitches.

What did people wear after having a section? Need to repack my hospital bag now.

I slummed around in my comfiest trackies and just pulled them a bit higher. Your scar will most likely be right on your bikini line so your trousers will come above it. I was back in normal jeans in 2 weeks.

CrapBag · 21/01/2011 22:04

My bottoms don't pull higher, they all sit on my hips.

I just bought some higher knickers and wore loose trackies for a while. Took 6 weeks to get back into my jeans so Envy of lexxity.

Clothes that rub your scar will drive you nuts, even after it's healed IME.

LittleBeth53 · 21/01/2011 23:16

I went and bought some cheap jogging bottoms in a bigger size. The worst thing for me was my 'after birth belly,' my stitches didn't get any air for a couple of weeks when I was stood coz my post birth tummy was hanging over it. Nightmare! x

BikeRunSki · 21/01/2011 23:19

Don't think you can wear maternity "under the bump" trousers, "under the bump" = "on the scar"!

I wore over bump trousers and jogging bottoms.
Back in"fat" ordinary jeans after 3 weeks.

mamasunshine · 22/01/2011 07:37

Mothercare sell some really big, comfy, supportive knickers to wear after mine. Definitely recommend. Buy high waisted jogging bottoms, you don't want anything rubbing which could interfere with healing.

flimflammery · 22/01/2011 07:43

Yes, I remember sending DH out from my hospital bed to buy 'big knickers' - he was helped by some kind lady in Sainsbury's I think.

Also recommend Widgy pillow if you're planning to bf - it supports the baby away from your scar.

BalloonSlayer · 22/01/2011 08:32

For the first few days I used to wear the trousers I had worn when about 4-5 months pregnant. I have found that the closer-fitting the trousers, the more support the scar gets, and the less the discomfort.

You can get caesarean support belts apparently, but I have never seen one.

After the first few days there is a lot less discomfort, I found.

Porcelain · 22/01/2011 09:10

I Hung about in my nightie as muchas possible Blush then summer dresses as it was august.

TLCDoula · 22/01/2011 10:05

Big knickers and some nice thin lounge wear type trousers/jogging bottoms. Primark do themfor a out £8 a pair, so comfy.

CrapBag · 22/01/2011 10:07

Wish it was warmer, dresses/nighties would be fine!

I'll have to take a trip to somewhere cheap to get some cheapy bottoms that come up higher than the ones I have then. Problem is, they all seem to be quite low. Don't know where to find ones that come up higher.

Primark! Yes, I have seen their pyjamas. They do look comfy. I'll try there, thanks. Smile

I got 'full' briefs to go over the scar and wore my over bump maternity leggings, two weeks later my under bump jeans still rub. Good luck!

WimpleOfTheBallet · 22/01/2011 10:19

Yes...massive knicks and massive pants...massive and cheap so you dont eel it's permanent. My scar still bothers me 2 years down the line. I always have long line thinvest top to tuck in and this protects it a bit.

theborrower · 23/01/2011 17:07

I'm seconding the Big Pants! Normal knickers rubbed and so were completely out - nice big cotton waist high pants from M&S (£4 for a pack of 5, I think) were perfect. I wore my jammies for a few days after getting out of hospital, then my comfiest maternity trousers and jeans for a few days before moving into my big fat jeans after that - but I'm still in my fat jeans and DD is nearly 6 months sob :-(

PaigeTurner · 23/01/2011 17:51

Massive pants and maternity leggings four weeks on Sad

BikeRunSki · 23/01/2011 18:05

C Section belt www.mothercare.com/Theraline-Caesarean-Belt/dp/B0011EWQ1U/ref=sr_11_1/275-4022708-5307016?_encoding=UTF8&mcb=core.

I did not use one, or feel the need, but I now someone who loved it.

I started using Bio-oil on my scar after about a month which has helped it heal nicely, stay stretchy and soft and fade a bit. DS is 2.4.

BikeRunSki · 23/01/2011 18:06

Here

CrapBag · 23/01/2011 19:07

Thanks for the link.

I'll try some bio oil and I have some size 16 pants (I was a 10 pre pregnancy so I am hoping they will be big enough).

I usually live in leggings anyway so that shouldn't be a problem and I have a really nice comfy pyjama set that has maternity leggings as bottoms, so they will keep me going around the house.

motherofsnortpigs · 23/01/2011 20:53

Try and get the physio to give you a tubi-grip that will go round your tummy. It will become your friend :)

NellyTheElephant · 23/01/2011 21:51

I'm not sure that you want size 16 pants if you were previously a 10. I felt much more comfortable with things being fairly tight and 'held in' over the scar - so yes, big pants - but big in that they come up high and the elastic line doesn't cut into the scar, not in that they are a bigger size and baggy. I actually found that one thing that was really comfortable was my 'magic pants' i.e. spanx or the like. Held the scar nice and firmly together. I've had 3 sections and in hospital (always V warm) I stuck to nighties and stretchy mesh pants (see e.g. Jojo Maman Bebe website - 5 pack hospital knickers) but once home I don't remember giving it much thought - anything provided the waist band didn't slip into the scar (the scar really is quite low - well below most hipster jeans, I mean the cut is in the hair line. A friend gave me a sort of corset support thing which was fantastic, it was reasonably solid and could be done up quite tightly with velcro and I wore that a lot, then it didn't matter where waist bands were.

WillYouDoTheDangFanjo · 23/01/2011 21:58

I lived in leggings and tunics for a while.

If bf-ing I bought low-necked or button-front tunics, and a cheap vest top in a matching colour and generous size. Then I could either pull up the vest & pull down the tunic, or pull up the tunic and pull down the vest - either way avoiding an expanse of boob top or muffin top on show.

duckymum · 23/01/2011 22:10

Big cheap M&S pants as mentioned by the borrower.
Sainsbury's yoga trousers - £6 a pair - sit well above scar so no rubbing.
(possibly too comfy - I am still wearing around the house 5 months on!)

CrapBag · 24/01/2011 09:39

Thanks. Off to get hideous high waisted pants that I always avoid normally. Smile And yoga trousers, is that what they are called?
