I'm due to have an elective c-section in just over 2 weeks and wondered how long it took people to be driving again? I'm also wondering about how you go about getting back behind the wheel? Do you have to get signed off by a dr to be covered on insurance etc?

Phone your insurance company and ask them - mine weren't bothered at all, didn't require any form of sign off and I got the feeling I was bothering them by asking such stupid questions.

I was driving again within 3 weeks - the driving was fine, the only reason I wasn't driving sooner was having to lift the car seat in and out. Some friends of mine did wait 6 weeks though they tended to have family nearby to help, unlike me

Good luck

With my first it was 2 weeks, with my second it was 8 days. Check with your insurance company(mine had no policy on it and weren't interested at all) went to doctor who had a look at wound and a quick prod and then made a note on my medical file that she thought I was ok to drive.

I was driving after 4 weeks. My Insurance company had no fixed timeframe, just said I should be able to do an emergency stop.

It totally depends on the insurance company, but most are pretty reasonable and say "when your doctor says so". So make sure you ask your doctor before leaving the hospital.. if you don't you can always ring up your GP and get their opinion. Usually it is simply "Can you do an emergency stop?"

I was driving after two weeks. Had to, for the sake of our marriage (I am a hopeless passenger!!) Wink
