Has anyone else not put any thought into their second labour?

Feel I really need to get my act together. Am 29 weeks with second DC. With DS I had NCT classes, went on a tour, read EVERYTHING.

This time, all I've thought about is whether or not I will have Group B Strep at my 36 week checkup, and if so I won't be able to go to the midwife led centre at Watford Hopital.

I haven't thought much about the labour

I haven't reread my books

I'm not in a class

I don't need a tour. I think.

Should I sort myself out a bit? Is being laissez-faire a good idea with childbirth?

I haven't even sought out the newborn babygros languishing somewhere in the loft.

23.5 wks, can't be arsed to do much really and probably won't do a birth plan. As Doris Day said, Que sera, sera! Last time had gas and air and a waterbirth. Same again would be good. Will be a bit more bolshy this time instead of being told complete crap by snotty midwife. Child is different gender so have had a lot of fun buying clothes. If you've done it already, you know what to expect and also that all the planning in the world won't really help if labour goes badly.

thanks, not just me then! Had same, waterbirth + G&A, and hoping for second. In fact, that is pretty much what I have written in the birth plan in my notes. Which I haven't even read since my last mw appt.

Still think I being a tad blase about it though! (can't do accents)

If you write a detailed plan how will that help? My friend wanted a water birth with minimal intervention and it all went tits up, big style! She ended up on diamorphine with serious tearing. Another wanted an average delivery and got a planned C-section as DS was breech. I know what I would like, will be quite vocal once in labour to tell them and may get what I want if I'm lucky.

oh yes I agree. just pondering that perhaps I should think about the whole thing a bit more. maybe.

Nah, just eat chocolate, buy baby clothes from ebay and watch crap on daytime TV. Far better preparation for the chaos to come!

BellaBearisWideAwake · 20/01/2011 20:55

well, relief. Can do all of that Grin

I know. I am on third. It's even worse! I meant to look into hypnobirthing this time... oops. Am here looking for info on what signs I am supposed to look out for as have forgotten!

BellaBearisWideAwake · 20/01/2011 21:03

yes, that's what got me thinking I should prepare. You know, just a little bit

I was supposed to be going to do hypnobirthing too but it never happened. Maybe we've just been programmed to think we should or can control what happens.
