Can anyone help with questions about BP in labour?

I had normal to low bp throughout my first pregnancy but when my waters broke and I went into hospital my BP went high and I wasn't allowed to use the birthing centre. I had to stay being monitored on the labour ward.

I'm pregnant again and, same again, my BP is mainly on the low side of normal.

I'm wondering I guess what the chances are of the same thing happening again. I've read that it's fairly common for your bp to rise when you go into labour. I ideally would like to give water birth a go but I'd rather know now if that's unlikely and that way I can prepare myself rather than be disappointed.

Anyone had high BP in one labour but not in another?

I think a lot depends on how relaxed and comfortable you are in labour. With my second pregnancy I had high blood pressure during pregnancy and was then classed ashigh risk, althugh I was quite anxious particularly when my bp was taken.

Once I was in labour with a bit of gas and air they were commenting that my bp was low!!I also felt very relaxed and at ease as labour progressed.

Might be worth looking at hypnobirthing cd's or relaxing music to help you stay relaxed and get the birth that you want.

Thanks greenbeanie. That's the strange thing, I thought I was coping quite well, I was only about 2cms dilated and contractions were still irregular and not very long lasting. I had done hynobirthing and was just focusing on breathing so i was really surprised when I was told my BP was high. Maybe this time I'll ask for the g&a as soon as I get there to see if it has an effect on my BP!
