CS Risks

I put this in pregnancy but thought I might get more answers over here, its a request for a friend.

She has a baby born in September (by emergency CS) and babe No2 is due in August, an 11 month gap.

She's worried about what her raised risks would be - uterine rupture, bleeding, chance of natural birth etc. Not only what the risks are but how much the risks are raised. Or where can I find the risks?

Thanks a lot!

I'm have a planned CS this week and have been assured that the risks for future pregnancies and births are very low, almost the same as for second pregnancies after VB.

Assuming your friends CS incision was the normal low down one then it won't rupture labour as the cut is made in the part of the uterus that isn't stretched in labour. Or something like that.

I think it is normal now to encourage women to have natural births if they had previous CS, however it would all depend on exactly what happened during your friend's first labour. Perhaps she should talk to her midwife about her particular situation?

hope this is helpful

i was told that a vbac would be possible if i waited 18 months before trying to concieve. However i was also told that i should leave a 12 month gap before trying for another baby to reduce complications and to allow my suture line time to heal. I guess these things happen and they must have ways to look after you.

Hmmm, I hestitate to write this but a friend of mine had an emergency section and was told to wait at least 2 years for next child. She actuially had next one 14 months later. Her uterus ruptured, her baby spent 10 days in SCBU.

I work in the 'natural' birth world but I think a section is worth considering. I know a lot of people think 'natural' birth is worth aiming for but I think I'd rather be safe!

A friend has 14 months between her two. She was not allowed to try for a vbac, as there hadn't been enough time for scars to heal properly.
She had an elcs, which all went fine.
