Third degree tear scar tissue

I ended up with a third degree tear 14 weeks ago giving birth to my DD. Had a useless midwife who said she'd tell me when to stop pushing, but she just said keep going. So I pushed DD out in 24 minutes, and had a third degree tear! Angry

Anyway, enough of my bitterness(!), I seem to have healed quite well, despite only seeing a physio last week (they forgot to refer me). She said my muscles have been repaired well but I have a lot of scar tissue, and to massage the area daily. She'll see me again in four weeks and will use ultrasound to break down the scar if necessary.

Has anyone had a tear and then had ultrasound on the scar? My DH and I have had sex a few times, but it's quite painful as my scar has no "give" in it.

I don't always want to be sore, and as our baby is sleeping well through the night, I want to get back to how we were! Wink

Oh, Selegas - so sorry. DC1 is 15 weeks and I had perineal and urethral tearing. Like you, after everything healed, I had adhesions and scar tissue. I had already been referred to a gynae becasue I'd had lots of infections and it hadn't been healing well. Once it had healed she said to massage and stretch it out, like doing perineal massage, 2-3 times a day for between 5 and 10 minutes a time. She precribed me some local anaesthetic gel, instillagel, as it was pretty painful and this took the edge off it. I was also referred to a physio who did ultrasound to break it down. I've had 4 sessions and it's worked well. I have one more session in a couple of weeks, when she hopes to discharge me. I think you are doing really well to have had sex - I'm still too scared. Good luck.

Thanks for your replies.

Cardamom, sorry you had such a time of it! Its hard enough with a newborn when you can't even sit down properly for the first few weeks, isn't it?

So glad the ultrasound is working for you, I hope it'll work for me too. I'll keep doing the massaging in the mean time. I used to be so shy of being examined but I'm used to it now!

We've only had sex two or three times, and i'm so worried it won't be like it used to be ever again. I think you're right to be waiting until you're properly healed, wish I had, then maybe it wouldn't have upset me so much.

Hope your final session goes well x

good diet , plenty of omega fish and fruit and veg will heal tissues well
jojoba oil massage on tear line
give it time
also salt baths
pelvic floor exercise
see a physio too
hope this helps

14 weeks. I had to wait 8 months to see someone after I was forgotten about!!

Pelvic floor exercises really helped my recovery. Thats all I really did. I was told I healed well, don't know if thats down to luck or not though.
