Baby bath

Hello

My ten week old sometimes smells rather cheesy! She is formula fed and if it goes down her neck or behind her ears, it can get a bit honking. I am finding that plain water at bathtime isn't quite enough to de-cheese her! When can you start using baby bath? My health visitor was a bit iffy about it a number of weeks ago, but I am wondering if she is old enough now. If so, can anyone recommend a nice gentle one? It doesn't need to be perfumed, in fact, probably best if it isn't as she is a red head so her skin could be a bit sensitive.

I use Little Me Organics. You can get it online or from decent Boots stores. It's mild and smells natural lavendary.

The midwife used baby bath on DD when she had her bath in hospital.

I use Neals Yard baby stuff. It's pricey, but it smells lush, and it's got entirely organic ingredients (as opposed to just the smell ingredients) so it's really gentle.

Thanks, two excellent suggestions there. Dancing, the MW used baby bath on my DD too - you get so many different opinions, don't you!

Tell me about it. As if there isn't enough to figure out.

Saying that, we only gave DD a proper bath about 3 times in the first 10 weeks as she hated it so much. Absolute nightmare, I dread to think what the neighbours thought Grin

I've used baby bath since birth on all my children, even the very premature ones.

I use Gentle Lentil shampoo bar from Lush. It does a good lather that I then use for the rest of him. I think it's in the Retro section.

Try Verde, lovely range (mail order, or shop if you're in London just off Northcote Road, SW11. Or the more mainstream Halos and Horns range.

If her skin dries out with baby bath, you could use Oilatum- we have it on prescription for DD. She is 21mo now and has never used soap/baby bath- the oilatum is an effective cleanser and is v kind to skin.

I use the baby Simple range (or will do). I even use it on DS2 (7yo) who gets terrible allergies to most bath products. It's wonderful, I get it in Boots.

Thanks all. Plenty to choose from here!

You've already had lots of good suggestions. But I just wanted to say I remember that cheesy smell so well. :)

Cakemuncher · 08/01/2011 18:21

It's delightful, isn't it Wink. Last night we put olive oil on her for a touch of cradle cap - she smelled like a cheap pizza!

Been there too! DS2 is 3 and still has cradele cap. Have given up. It's gets shampooed and that loosens enough to not make it too thick. Well, that and all his hair.

i had this problem too with babys milk getting into neck skin and smelling etc! tommee tipee milk bibs helped! also boots ramer baby soft sponges are fab for getting into the hard to get areas on a new born. i used 1 squirt of johnsons head to toe baby wash into bath water and this sponge! and it worked a treat. {smile}

ooohhhh and for cradle cap i found a good slather of johnsons baby lotion at night seemed to loosen it that much it just wiped away in the morning!

KenDoddsDadsDog · 09/01/2011 21:08

Had the same thing here! I used Infacare and now use Kiehls. Second the milk bibs tip too.
