Still bleeding at 7.5 weeks, don't know what to do now

Still bleeding 7.5wks after delivery, quite heavy with clots (sorry if tmi). With dc1 I had this and it turned out to be some placenta still left, needed a d&c to remove it and finally stopped bleeding 12 weeks post-delivery.

I am pretty sure that there is probably still some placenta this time and want to get it assessed before I have a massive bleed. Saw GP today who has referred me for an ultrasound scan but he said it could take upto 6 weeks for the appointment to come through!! Really worried as i know that if there is any placenta left the risk of infection will increase along with the risk of having a haemorrhage. Said this to GP who agreed that I should be scanned straight away but there is nothing he can do to speed it up! Any advice welcome...

You could go to a&e? Your GP should push this - you don't want an infection!

I don't understand why your GP couldn't ring through an emergency referral, that's ridiculous!..Poor you Shock

I'd contemplate a trip to A&E.

Good luck!

I shall try ringing the maternity ward in the morning. I am a health visitor ( in fact I am the health visitor for my GP!), so I am well aware of the potential consequences of leaving this without treatment. Stressed enough at the thought of having to possibly have a general anaesthetic and surgery again let alone not getting it sorted out soon.

According to the GP they can only do emergency scans for early pregnancy!!! I can't believe that is actually true.

Our EPC routinely scans post natal patients with bleeding. You should be able to get an appointment within a few days if the correct referral is made.

Your GP cannot refer you back to the midwives, the care stops at 6 wks post natal you would need a new referral to gynae but should still be seen quickly.

Good luck

Sorry you're dealing with being told to go away & wait for an appt when you need to be seen asap. Only thing that works is going to the hospital & not leaving until you have your scan. Good luck.

My GP referred me to our local hospital on an emergency basis - into A&E where a gynae consultant and my notes were waiting for me.

It was miscarriage related prolonged and very heavy bleeding which they'd been unable to stop.

It was a pretty efficient way of being treated - I ended up with a blood transfusion and a really thorough examination. My bleeding stopped of it's own accord a few days later.
