Using tampons after childbirth

Just wondering if anyone was having trouble using tampons after childbirth.

I am only eight weeks post birth but a friend of mine said she can't use them anymore as she has a prolapse and they push down and become too low (sorry if too much information).

I was curious as I also suspect that I have a prolapse and found that the same thing happens to me. So - was just wondering is this a normal problem soon after the birth or is it probably due to a prolapse?

Experiences to share anyone? What would we do without mumsnet Grin

Hi Arizona!
Are you sure you have a prolapse? If you think you might have one, get it checked by a specialist obs/gynae physio. Might it just be the vaginal walls "sagging down" IYSWIM? I thought I might have a prolapse - everything felt as if it had collapsed inside and I had a horrible dragging feeling all the time. But it was just that my vaginal muscles and pelvic floor were knackered. Am now 14 weeks post birth and things are much better. I have had 2 periods now and haven't dared to use a tampon yet. The whole idea of anything going up there freaks me out TBH. And I had tearing which has a bit of a nightmare with infections and adhesions. But in terms of the whole issue about tampons and things having collapsed inwards it's probably a question of LOADS of pelvic floor exercises and time. But if yo are wporried about prolapse, please get yourself checked! Good luck!!

Great - just typed a long message and lost it all!! Was just thanking everyone for being so helpful. Cardamomginger - thanks for taking the time to reply. I suspect you are totally right and things may sort theselves out in time. I have exactly the same dragging sensation you describe. Thanks everyone.
