Hi. Has anyone given birth recently in birmingham.
After a brilliant normal waterbirth in Newcastle ( Q.E) I have scared myself by looking at reviews in Brum.
Where has the most birthing pools? which hospital is good/ bad?
thanks

I guess people would say the QE (where most of my friends had theirs...)

Just to say the QE does not offer maternity services - you'll probably mean the Birmingham Women's hospital which is nearby.

The Women's offers both a Birthing Centre (midwife led) and a Delivery ward (made up of individual delivery suites). As far as I know you're not allowed to give birth in the Birthing Centre if you're being looked after by a Consultant, and if you require any intervention/pain relief beyond pethidine you'll need to transfer to the Ward. I'm due to give birth at the Women's in 4 weeks and will hopefully use the Birthing Centre....

I've recently heard good things about the City Road hospital's new Birthing Centre which has pools in every room etc etc but I don't know much more about it.

Towards Solihull, you can choose either to give birth at the midwife led Birthing Centre or at Heartlands hospital - if you have any complications at all you'll be moved to Heartlands which is some distance away.

Hope that gives you a bit more of an idea.

recently had my son in Bham WOmens and although a little dated in decor etc the staff were fantastic and the care wonderful. Afterwards they were short staffed and there are only a handful of private rooms - the other 48 women are on wards of 4 to a room. But obviously in delivery then you have your own room. Most are en suite - i had to share with another room but in labour i didn't really care. It's very busy hospital but in all honesty it is specialist so you are in very experienced hands which is important. Didn't experience the birth centre but that is meant to be lovely.
