2cm dilated

Hi everyone,

I'm 39+5, on Monday we saw the doctor and nothing was happening but yesterday when I saw her she said that I was 2cm dilated. Does this mean labour is imminent, or could I be waiting another week or more? Would be great to get some advice...

I've been walking around, have eaten lots of pineapple, had sex and would have had a curry but our favourite Thai restaurant is closed for the holidays. Anything else I can do to persuade this baby to come out Xmas Hmm?

Marge

Is it your first?

Lost one at 20 weeks in March so yes, this is my first to go full term although with the one in March I was induced and had to give birth. Don't know if that makes a difference or not.

Sorry to hear about your loss Margie. Cervix that have been previously opened sometimes don't shut fully or as tightly again during subsequent pregnancies so you could be at 2cms for a while before labour licks off 'properly' but look at it this way- you only have another 8cms to go. Grin

Oh, sorry Margie. That must have been very hard.

It's like Breasty says though, if your cervix has been opened it doesn't usually close properly. 2cm is the usual starting place for subsequent births.

The good news though is that 0-2cm in first births can take forever, so you should be able to skip that bit and get down to business sooner.

with my 1st the midwife came out when i was 41 weeks and said i was 2cm, nothing happend and had my induction 5 days later and was still at 2cm
