Would really like some opinions on childbirth second time round. Have been told labour will be faster and baby will weigh more.
would really like to hear from personal experiences.

Labour faster but baby weighed less for me second time around.

1st - >24hours labour 7lb 12oz
2nd - 2.5hours labour 7lb 3oz
3rd - 1.5hours labour 9lbs !!!! Easiest and best labour of the lot!

I think your body knows what to do second time around, and your expectations are lower, so works out better.

I don't think it's necessarily true. I just don't think things happen as neatly in that way.

My second active labour was just as long as my first (12 hours) and my baby dd was a pound lighter than ds1.

My third labour was 3 hours and ds1 was a pound lighter than my dd and two pounds lighter than ds1.

1st labour - 35 hours, weighed 8lb 10oz
2nd labour - 4.5 hours, weighed 7lb 12oz

So quicker, but lighter second time around.

My sister has had 4 babies and none of them was quicker than the previous.

Second labours are often quicker but certainly not always. It's not something you should count on, however likely it is.

My second DC was born significantly quicker than the first and was marginally larger.

1st labour 8 hours 6Ib 13oz

I my case it is true, bit everyone is different...

Its all totally random

1st: 25 hour labour normal delivery 6lb 10oz
2nd: 6.5 hours induced labour normal delivery 7lb 7oz
3rd: 12 hour induced labour resulting in EMCS 8lb 6oz

No, my first was my heaviest.

Subsequent labours tend to be faster, and less painful as your body is doing it all for the second (or third....) time. But having said that, some labours take longer

Very interested in all your comments as my labour was very fast first time round nearly three hours start to finish and dd was nearing the 10 0z mark. dd was fine, me just in shock.As we are now ttc second child.

Not for me, on either count.

dd1 - labour 2 hours, weight 7lb 3.5oz
dd2 - labour 20 hours , weight 6lb 5oz

DD- 22 hours - 8 lb 4 oz
DS- 19 hours - 9 lb 6 oz

So it was true for me.

DS1 - 30 hours, 6lbs2
DS2 - 6 hours, 6lbs7

was true for me and generally is the case

Sower for me but fear not: less painful by a long way too. Was able to get about until quite late on.

baby bigger but we're talking 6lb 11.5oz baby at term over a 5lb 5oz baby at 38 weeks who had suffered with a failing placenta so who knows LOL

guhdoo my ds3 came in 3 hours, do be rpepared as my 4th and last baby arrived in 35 minutes!

2nd was faster and weighed less (not much) and much more painful. But I think that was because it was short (2.5 hours)

1st 31 hours, pushed for 2 hours, all the interventions, 9 lb 15.

2nd 5 hours, pushed for 15 mins, no interventions, 7 lb 6.

But also: 1st was badly positioned, induced, and had head measurement on 91st percentile. 2nd was perfectly positioned, not induced, and had head measurement on 6th percentile. These things are also relevant I think.

DS1 24hrs, 8lb 8oz
DS2 2hrs, 8lb 9oz

True for me too

DS 8hrs then 1hr pushing all lovely and relaxed in pool- 8lb 5
DD 4hrs then 3hrs pushing then EMCS 10LB 1/2 OZ!

My old fashioned book says that a woman will have her heaviest baby around the age of 35. I think the implication was that babies get heavier until you are 35, then get lighter.

I don't know whether that has any truth to it, but for some women it could mean that their babies were getting heavier as they went on, some the other way around.

I had DC1 at 35 - 9lb 9oz
I had DC2 at 37 - 6lb 13oz
I had DC3 at 43 - 6lb 13oz

With DC3 I was worried that I was small for dates so I was referred to the consultant, Mr Kindly-Patronising. He said that first babies are "always bigger because when you are pregnant with your first baby you've got time to laze around eating Mars Bars all day, while with subsequent babies you're run off your feet." , and again.

Number 2 was half an hour slower but over 2lb bigger!

It was definitely true for me, second was much faster and a little heavier.

DD had a baby six weeks ago and asked me the same question. I said it is true more often than not.

She was having a few contractions and walked to the hospital to be monitored. Baby born within 5 minutes. She was lighter than her first.

its true for me.

i think the labour was faster as i relaxed and went with it, rather than tense up out of fear like my first labour.

ds2 probably weighed more because i didnt have as much sickness second time around.
