C- section - problems with light leak

Redhelen · 23/09/2005 17:01

I had my second emergency c-section on Sunday. I now have a light leak on the scar. I'm advised it is just clear fluid and should reseal soon - but I'm still worried - have also had a swab done today to check not infected.

Any one experienced similar??

I had some leakage on one side of my wound, my midwife gave me some powder to help it to dry and seal

My scar opened very very slightly, didn't get any leakage though. Was told to put tea tree oil in my bath to help the healing which seemed to work a treat - just check with your HV or GP first.

Yes - my situation sounds similar - right side is leaking slightly. How long did yours take to heal over? Have been advised to use teatree oil. Thanks

after I got the powder it cleared up pretty quickly, also got told to make sure the wound was dry after a shower etc - to this day (3 years later) I still dry my wound with the hairdryer - I have an "overhand" BTW

yes i had this too. Just ensure you pat the area after bathing until completely dry. Also you may find that if you do (am sure you will have) have a hangy belly right now the scar area can become quite damp just ensure it is clean and dry at all times and dont wear bikini knickers

Redhelen · 26/09/2005 19:47

Thanks skinnycow

I'm trying to keep it clean and dry (your right I have an overhang!) but it is difficult unless I'm laying down all the time!
And only big knickers here!

Thanks - do you remember how long the healing lasted - its really marring my first days with my daughter. Helenxx - I worry I've got mrsa as I'm a drama queen!!!

Hey red helen, dont worry too much about a slight leak. Tea tree oil is definately the best thing for it and in Austrailia they use it to treat MRSA . All the leak is, if it clearish fluid is briusing breaking down and finding the quickest way out. You wouldn't even necassarily see any bruising there either but it would be deeper down. Anyway thats what I was told. I had really extensive bruising after my c sec due to complications and took weeks to heal but all the midwifes I saw told me I was the worst case they had ever seen! Nice to be distinguished! hope it heals soon. Another thing is, it is far better for the fluid to come out if its there, than stay in and become infected. Sorry for the essay!

Thanks banthambabe -the side of my scar that is leaking is badly buised. I hope it will start to heal up soon - I'm glad to hear I'm not alone in experiencing this. Thanks

I had this with my dd (now 3) the right side of my scar opened slightly after that. They took a swab and prescribed antibiotics as it had started to smell. Then the health visitor suggested the antibiotic powder (i think its called sikitrin) or something like that and it cleared it right up. The powder just dries up all the moisture (major overhang!). Try to air the wound as much as possible (hard with a baby I know) and relax they've seen it all before and can help you.

I had this too, Redhelen. Quite frightening when it happens isn't it? Mine healed up quite quickly, what is quite useful is to buy some night-time (or as big as you can find) sanitary pads (without wings!!) and press the pad length ways onto your knickers so the pad is resting against the wound, it does prevent material etc sticking to the leak, iyswim. HTH

Redhelen · 27/09/2005 14:16

Thanks Fimbo

I will try the sanity towel idea - it is a problem at night if my knickers stick to it - wow I'm sexy!

Thanks again Helenxxx

Pads are a good idea I used breast pads when just one area was leaking!

Thanks for your help.

On antibiotics now as I have an infection - fingers crossed they work XXXXXXXXXx
