Slow labour after waters breaking?

My DD's waters broke yesterday lunchtime, she went to the hospital to have it confirmed that it was definitely her waters and they sent her home and told her to come back at 6pm on Friday to be induced if necessary but said contractions should start within 24 hours. They said she could have a bath. Since last night she has had very mild contractions every 30 minutes or so and that is continuing now.
Maybe I'm being over anxious which is why I'm asking here and not discussing it with her as she seems very happy to wait until Friday.
My question is has anybody had a very slow labour with first born after waters breaking and gone on to have normal delivery without forceps etc? Tuesday lunchtime to Friday evening seems a long time to me to not be monitored to make sure everything is ok. She can feel the mild contractions mainly in her back - this suggests to me that the baby may not be in a good position or it could have turned back to being breech (she had a successful ECV 2 weeks ago).
I would just like to know any similar experiences. I know everything has changed since I had my children and maybe I'm just being a fusspot and should stop worrying but I haven't got a lot of faith in hospitals these days.
Would be pleased to hear any experiences good or bad.
Thank you.

My sisters waters broke on a Sunday evening and her DS2 was born on the Tuesday evening. The labour was going on very slowly for all this time, and she did have an epidural on the Tuesday morning as she hadnt slept for 2 nights and was finding it very hard work. However, it was a natural delivery in the end.

The only issue she had was that both she and her DS picked up infections and ended up having to have IV antibiotics. But then she had to stay in hospital where she was surrounded by other people, not at home like your daughter.

So, I've not been very helpful in my response really, sorry!

Don't think I'll be helpful either - my labour was v long even after waters broke. I was put on the syntocinon drip (not sure spelled right sorry!) and that made things more painful so had epidural as I was in pain and shattered. Ended up in ventouse with an episitiomy. I think half the reason things were slow was because my baby wasn't in a very good position which then led to intervention. But in answer to your concerns in my experience the hospital was brilliant but if you are concerned with her not been monitored then you should say something, don't worry about been a fussy mum as better to say something and be seen as fussy rather than not say something and wish you had.

Happened to me. Thursday-Monday.

Research, research, research: NHS may push for induction, but no need to consent unless you really want it. The NICE guidelines suggest that really only worry about getting some antibiotics after 90hours.

This slow warm up might be just what is needed to shift baby down, get cervix favourable or whatever....

Happened to me too, waters broke and no labour! Was induced but cervix refused to dilate so has cs in the end, all a bit medical, but fine really. Me and DD fit and well.

Yes, happened to me too - waters broke on sunday to Tuesday, but they think they were "trickling" (nice!!) beforehand

Baby was monitored as I was at 35 weeks and they actually gave me tablets to slow down labour (have no idea what this was, sorry)and steroids so DD had longer for lungs to develop.

I am sure they would monitor the baby if they were concerned at all, but I think you can ask. Its probably best for her to be at home to relax and wander around that will help get things moving.

When "proper" labour started for me I went from 0 - 10 cms on 2 baths and codeine! Unfortunately had to have drip to speed contractions up to actually deliver, but only had one small tear and just used gas & air.

As it was a long time from waters breaking to delivery DD had to have antibiotics to stop infection, that I think is a standard thing. She did go to SCBU but that was to do with being 5 weeks early. Now a crazy 8.5 month old!

hope all goes ok.

My water broke at ten am on monday and had my baby at seven am on tuesday. I was steep b pos so had to have antibiotics for infection. Also had citatec (sp?) vaginaly then pitocin drip to augment labor. I really didn't want pitocin and the labor was pretty painful in mu legs and feet but i made it through naturally. Love my eight month old son.
