Dundee vs Perth MLU

Does anyone have any opinions or experience with choosing either the PRI or Ninewells midwife unit? I've heard glowing recommendations for Perth but not much of anything about Dundee as it's relatively new. I'm currently booked in to Ninewells as it was convenient for scans, etc, but I'm considering switching to PRI as it's closer to home. Thanks!

No personal experience, but SiL has just had hers in Ninewells and was very happy indeed. Facilities and staff all great, despite a longish induction.

(She was supposed to transfer to Perth to recuperate but didn't need to so no idea about that!)

Sure someone with first hand experience will be along soon!

My sil had her first at Perth and it was great. Much more personalised care than you'd get at a big unit and she had a great room to herself afterwards - en suite! They do relatively few deliveries so in theory atleast you get a better after delivery experience. No epidurals though - have to go to Dundee for that. Based on her experiences I would suggest even if you deliver in Dundee get travsferred back to Perth asap for aftercare. They were really good helping her to get b/feeding going to - and that wasn't easy for her.

The number of births at Perth is one of the main reasons I'd like to use it, as it seems I'd get more individual attention. I didn't realise I could transfer to PRI for aftercare from Ninewells.

I'm really not keen to use the consultant unit at Ninewells unless I absolutely must, but I wonder how different the midwifery unit is from the consultant unit?

Certainly in 2009 the midwives were telling sil to ask for a transfer back for after care if she did need to go to Dundee to deliver. I assume that's still the case now.
The thing about the Perth Unit is that it was only opened in Spring 2009 - so fairly shiny still Grin
