Driving post section-anyone insured with Aviva?

Can't get a clear answer about driving. They said just go off the Drs advice but can't say whether that is ;
A- the surgeon said not to drive for 6 weeks ( which means as soon as dd3 is 6 weeks old I can drive )

Or

B- after my 6 week check ( which is more than 7 weeks after dd3 was born)

Man I spoke to didn't know what a c-section was which didn't help!

It's your 6-weeks check.

Mind you I did drive before, we lived in the middle of nowhere and with DH back at work I would have gone mental just staying in the house on my own all day long. Not long trips, just short ones to the shop and to somewhere where I could go for a walk with DS etc but it meant I kept my sanity.

Having said that, I am NOT saying you should ignore your insurance's advice and start driving.

If you drive before getting the medical go ahead, you void your policy and will be driving uninsured. Not advisable.

I don't know the watertight answer to the original question, but would go with the 6week check (ie when a doctor has seen you and said OK).

Thanks, previous times it was A but different company this time & I assumed the same until friend said her company said B.

Maybe see your GP sooner when you feel ready and ask them? My surgeons have always said when I feel safe to do an emergency stop, plus that's what my GP says too. I went to see my GP at about three weeks post section as I really did have to drive again and he said it was fine so my insurance company was fine.

May be seeing him this week as I've still got the glue ear & it's getting worse so will ask. Dh test drove a car yesterday & I was Envy

I always waited until my 6 week check.

But if you feel ok can you call your GP and see what they say.

I am with Axa and they said as it was not on DVLA's list I could drive when I liked. So I drove a couple of miles at 4 weeks and felt fine, then drove 20 miles 2 days later and felt dreadful! You could always phone the surgery and ask a GP to call you if you can't get an appointment.

my insurance co weren't at all interested and stated in writing to me that they had no policy on diving post section when I asked. DHs insurance co wanted the OK from a doc so I made an appointment specifically to ask and got the OK from them. Drove at 2 weeks after first and 8 days after 2nd.

I am insured with aviva. there is no rule that says you can't drive for 6 weeks - that's an urban myth. What you can't do is drive against medical advice. You should speak to your GP. If they say you can drive, then you can drive. You don't need a letter, but you would want to make sure your GP notes it in your records in case of a subsequent accident! I am 4 weeks post section and the GP has said he is happy for me to drive therefore aviva are also happy for me to drive.

I was with Aviva after my last C-section. They told me that they would go by my GPs advice. If they felt I was OK, then I was insured. My GP asked me whether if the car was upside down in a crash whether I felt I could get myself out (at 4 weeks pp). I said I didn't think I could necessarily do that without the C/s. But I decided to wait until 6 weeks anyway. (I'm sure my GP would've cleared me at 4 weeks if I'd said I was OK though).
