forceps and prolapse first time, should I be gunning for a CS for number two?

I had a fairly good labour with number two but had a long pushing stage and ended up having to have an episiotomy and forceps as the baby seemed to be in distress.

This left me with a prolapsed bladder and bowel. It has improved over the last year so that it's now only mildly uncomfortable most of the time.

I'm not sure whether this experience should mean I push for a c-section for number two (I am nine weeks pregnant). I don't want one by any stretch but am pretty scared about what further damage could be caused by another VB.

Anyone else had a vaginal birth after prolapse and can offer any advice? Doctors have said they wouldn't normally recommend C-section 'just because of a prolapse' but to me the prolapse has been quite a big deal over the last year and it's already something I"m going to have to live with the rest of my life.

Advice gratefully accepted! (oh and PS, do your pelvic floor exercises!!)

Hi twinsister
I had V traumatic first birth resulting in prolapse and incontinence
Im preg with number 2 now and my consultant told me I have to have a C section to prevent further damage ( I requested to see a consultant at my 16 week appt and had it signed in my notes by the consultant that I could have a c section)

My prolapse isnt as bad as it was after 2 yrs of yoga/pilates and accupuncture for the incontinence but this pregnancy has put a lot of strain on my pelvic floor and I will need to 'fix' it after the birth- luckily my consultant has told me I can join his pelvic floor repair group afterwards.

I think the incontinence is what swung the desicion (~sp?)

have a look at the requesting a c section after a traumatic birth thread- the advice was invaluable to me when I became pregnant

also read up on the nice guidelines and the RCOG guidelines on follow up after instrumental delivery and C section.

good luck, hope it works out ok for you!
