Portland Hospital vs Kensington Wing - Recent experiences?

Newly pregnant again and happy to pay to avoid UCLH (again! First time was pretty shocking.).

Given distances, Portland is closest but heard bad things about it and wondering if anyone here can put me in the picture on their recent performance please?

Kensington Wing at Chelsea and Westminster sounds good - anyone here tried it?

Please let me know what you thought of them and whether you thought it was worth the extortionate prices. Or whether I should just hotfoot it back to UCLH and suffer the awful postnatal ward.

SarahJane1979 that's bollocks. Do your research and post accurate information or don't bother.Angry

The Portland has a NICU and SCBU, they routinely deliver pre-term, and rarely if ever have to transfer anyone. And you know why that is? Because its a maternity HOSPITAL, not a hotel, and is staffed by some of the world's best and most experienced physicians.

Honestly, every couple of months we have Portland Bingo. It's so dull.

Bagofholly · 02/06/2012 10:51

And I notice you've bounced this from almost 2 years ago? Have you nothing better to do?

SaraJane1978 · 02/06/2012 16:39

What is Portland BINGO?
I completely agree its a Maternity Hospital Hotel. Are you working for them?

Bagofholly · 02/06/2012 21:19

No. I had all 3 of my children there. And Portland Bingo is a highly predictable phenomenon occurring whenever The Portland appears in a thread - there's always some numpty who pops up with the usual inaccurate nonsense you're spouting. "They haven't got a SCBU." "They can't deal with complications." "You'll end up being transferred." "What about that girl who died there."

Seriously, it's TEDIOUS.

And to suggest that anyone who pulls you up on your foolishness works there, is frankly idiotic.

Bagofholly

Just going through this thread...there was really no need to attack sarah like that....im shocked!

my two friends did go to portland and one of them had a a preterm baby who was transferred to an nhs hospital ..so it DOES HAPPEN!

This is a nice board and it would be nice if we could all voice our opinions with a bit of respect.

Mumsnet was on the news a few weeks back and referred to as a bully site...and i didnt understand why...I DO NOW!

ghislaine · 18/07/2012 09:59

Billy, once you have read a few more comments like Sarahjane's, your shock will give way to exasperation at the inaccuracies trotted out about the Portland by all and sundry and then understanding of bagsofholly's seeming intemperateness.

I'm laughing though at your description of MN as a 'naice' board... That has made my day. And it's only ten o' clock!

HmmThinkingAboutIt · 18/07/2012 10:28

With Bag of Holly and ghislaine.

Deliberately slagging off somewhere because its private and scaremongering helps no one, especially if the information isn't very accurate or outdated.

I'm sure that you could do the same with a lot of NHS hospitals; its only private thats fair game... it says a lot about attitudes to private healthcare rather than the Portland in all honesty.
