Have my waters broken?

This may be a stupid question, but I'm really not sure what to do. I am 39+5 and I suspect that my waters may have broken (or at least be slightly punctured). Haven't has a 'show' as such, but earlier this evening had a lot of pink mucous, followed by intermittent dribbles of fluid, heavy enough to make me resort to sanitary pads. I'm pretty sure I'm not peeing myself (doesn't smell like urine) so think this must be my waters starting to dribble out? Anyone know if this is how waters can break?

I'm not having any painful or regular contractions, so I don't think I'm in labour, but wondering if I maybe need to call the midwife in the morning and maybe get checked out. Advice would be much appreciated. It's difficult to know what's happening when you've never done this before. :)

Thanks LITR. I ended up ringing the 24 hour midwife advice line and the midwife there advised me to ring teh maternity ward. They told me to go to sleep, but head in to see them this morning (which is what I'm about to do). Am hoping it's not a complete false alarm. Fluid has slowed from a slight trickle, to an ooze and now is not much more than a seep. Feels more like a slow puncture than a rupture!

It is my first baby and I am really starting to think I might have imagined it! So DH and I went to teh hospital at 8 o'clock this morning for an assessment. Fluid had completely dried up through the night and the midwife at the hospital could find no signs of water breakage / dilation. She suggested it might have been a show and said to call them straight away if I start to dribble again. Seems very odd. I'm starting to oooze abit now, but am going to wait until I get a definate trickle before contacting the hospital again. I suppose if this isn't amniotic fluid it must just be CM in fairly substantial quantities. Which I suppose means something is about to start fairly soon. I feel a bit of a chump though for not knowing the difference. Blush

I have a session of reflexology booked for this afternoon, which I hope will get things cracking. I just hope I get some unambiguous indications fairly soon. I hate the thought of wasting the hospital's time with false alarms.

Don't worry about it. It happens all of the time and it is better to get these things checked out so you know what the situation is. It does sound like you have had a "show" so hopefully things might start happening for you soon.

Good Luck.

Don't worry about wasting their time - you're not! If your waters do go, then the hospital will want you to go into labour within 24-48 hours because of the incresed risk of infection after that. So it's important to know when/if they go.
